Musk actually buys Twitter.

Musk made the whole code open to the public to see yesterday, this is someone who went trolling through the code to see how engagement was monitored/boosted by the algorithms.

Anyone that wants to can now go and verify what is in the Twitter code now.
On investigation, no he did not. Twitter released some of the code. What they released was specifically the stuff that controls how stuff gets shared more or less. This feels less like brilliant code analysis and more like a simple retweet.

That doesn't change that if this is all actually in there it's not great, but to my mind the worse part is that twitter felt the need to specifically label content as either Republican or Democrat and then share it accordingly. Feeding people only what agrees with and amplifies their current views probably makes aense for building trust and engagement but I think that kinda bubbling actively damages society.

They're feeding what drives engagement.

Yeah, actively making tweet sharing based on presumed political alignment of the tweet in question is a horrible precedent.

If people actively curate their own feeds, that's one thing; doing it for them in regards to politics is actively harmful to social discourse.

However:
They're feeding what drives engagement.
Is the more basic reason; make the big quarterly earning line go up is the ultimate driver of many corpo decisions.

NPR will no longer use Twitter due to being labeled as "government funded media" on its Twitter profile. They state they did this because it implies they are not editorially independent.

Their last tweet for now.

It's a short thread with links to download their app, newsletters and find them on other social media like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

What a bunch of manipulative bastards being butthurt about people knowing basic facts about them. They literally have "public" in the name and are government funded, if they think that the most minimal illusion of independence is so necessary to their very "benevolent" work, well, they always have the option of making it reality, leaving NPR, and setting up a private radio that won't take government money on principle.

Not even just that.

NPR was literally established via legislation. The fact is easily available and public too. To quote wikipedia.
It differs from other non-profit membership media organizations such as the Associated Press, in that it was established by an act of Congress.[4]
National Public Radio replaced the National Educational Radio Network on February 26, 1970, following Congressional passage of the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967.[12] This act was signed into law by 36th President Lyndon B. Johnson, and established the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which also created the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) for television in addition to NPR. A CPB organizing committee under John Witherspoon first created a board of directors chaired by Bernard Mayes.
So its mostly the usual cycle of people screeching on Twitter about how they're being by Twitter.

Mmm... everything looks fine here.

Let every citizen be a city unto himself.

But don't worry, the fake account has already been suspended or whatever. Sad.

Broke ass City.

@Marduk I only half-agree with you here.

They are "want-to-be-manipulative" bastards but can't because most people are not brand-loyal like a Nintendo CONSUMER and not gonna shed tears over this cunts leaving the now (almost) public digital place of discussion.

The rest is on point.

EDIT : Added this ⬇️
