Crimea isn't a person, it's a location. Your characterization of its "wants" is irrelevant to whether there was an Invasion of Ukrainian territory, which there was, both in Crimea and in the Donbass region in 2014 by Russian forces. Your post is inaccurate. 🤷‍♀️
I think of it more along the lines of Russia helping Crimea liberate itself from the externally imposed membership of Ukraine, but hey, you do you.

No Russian troops invaded Crimea. That's when the "liberation" occurred. It doesn't matter the purpose, it's still an Invasion.

For a sympathetic metaphor, it's called the Normandy Invasion, not the Normandy "Allies Helping France Liberate Itself."

What do you call the USA taking over Texas and California from Mexico, and Hawaii, and the Philippines, or all the other Latin American shenanigans related to the Monroe Doctrine...
What do you call French aid for the 13 colonies against the British?

Invasions lol.

The United States literally invaded during the Mexican War. Obviously.

Same with the Philippines... both times.

Like if I called Normandy an Invasion, you think I somehow wouldn't call those other things Invasions as well?

Dude, Russia Invaded Ukraine. You stating Ukraine hasn't been invaded by Russia since 1991 is inaccurate. 🤷‍♀️

I prefer to call it a liberation, but again, you do you.

Also, technically Russia didn't invade anything, because the troops were already there, since Russia had military installations in Crimea.

You can call it whatever you want. And using one term doesn't discount the other. It doesn't change what an Invasion is. But feel free to try and change commonly held word definitions like a Progressive and make language less direct and useful. :p

No. Just because you have a military base or leasing agreement somewhere doesn't mean you get the right to take over the local government buildings, seize border crossings and disarm the local Ukrainian forces, and import more little green men to facilitate the annexation of the region. It's still an Invasion. Unless the entirety of Crimea was their military installation, which I'm assuming was not the case and thus your counterpoint is irrelevant.

Ok, so this happened...and this

No, no, this needs to stop before something stupid happens.

Russia, doing nuke force excercises on Kamchatka is not helping cool this situation down, and sending high alt balloons at Hawaii is not helping things.

That’s actually not unusual; Kamchatka is at the other end of Russia and because it’s so far out there, they prefer using it for tests and such precisely because it’s so far out of the way.

Likewise, the Hawaii stuff is not unusual, either. They have a habit of poking around and not doing anything. And “suspicious weather balloon” isn’t necessarily due to Russia -we had one get loose from a mooring a couple years ago in the area and the USAF scrambled a couple fighters to intercept it -not because it was some kind of threat (though that was theoretically possible) but because it was primarily a navigation hazard for aircraft.

It probably doesn’t help the situation, but on the other hand, this is pretty much next to nothing. Russia is preparing to go after Ukraine, not us.

Yeah, one could say that an invasion was legitimate or even illegal but legitimate, but denying that there was an invasion is on a whole other level.

Yeah... the term 'invasion' just like say 'occupation' can have negative connotations depending on how you use it, but it can also be used as a value-neutral statement of fact. You can invade and occupy a country and still be "liberating" it for example.

Huh, a lot of movement going on near the border as well as a lot of shelling.
Why are Russian vehicles marked out unit numbers?

Vietnam liberating Cambodians from the Khmer Rouge, or the Allies liberating Europeans from the Nazis, or the US liberating Iraqis from Saddam Hussein.

Whelp.

There go my vacation plans. :(

A normal nuclear reactor should survive a jet smashing into it.
The new Sarcophagus for the reactor should be even sturdier.
That said, I never understood why the hell anyone would want to go to Chernobyl, anyways, I mean, there is more than enough soviet brutalist architecture laying around if you are into that thing, so the only excuse is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. larp.

France trying to talk things through.
Russia seems to toy with the idea agreeing to peace talks.
Yet Shelling and fighting in Donbass escalate. Relentless shelling. Ukraine saying thier side to stop.
Russian troops moving in formation with extra fuel towards Ukraine. Unit marking covered, and Z on the side.
Belarus border checkpoints cams are down on all borders.

I was kind of busy these last few days so I might have missed it, did the full scale invasion of Ukraine that the USA predicted it would happen the previous week, come true or did it turn to be propaganda, just like all other predictions from the last three months?

Well, this is...probably the...mundane move.

It gives both sides a symbolic 'win', let's Biden claim he averted a war in Europe, and likely keeps any military movement from being moved further forward.

Keep an eye to see if the pontoon bridge In Belarus's chunk of the Exclusion Zone goes away, or if it becomes permanent.

Putin seems to still be moving soldiers to the border.
Multiple footage showed tanks and units moving TOWARDS the border not away.
There is a massive misinformation campaign going on about Ukraine trying to start a war it seems. From shelling to sabatours to firefights, even an apparent BMP rush to the Russia bordee

Putin "winning" a face to face meeting or summit with Biden by deploying tens of thousands of troops to the Ukrainian border for the better part of a year isn't how I'd characterize this. That Putin "needs" to withdraw soldiers from the border to earn a summit doesn't seem like a fair way to characterize this situation. He's the leader of a powerful and influential country and he's already had meetings face to face with the leaders of France and Hungary and Germany etc in Russia. It's literally just diplomacy IMHO and dunking on the fact that people are talking to each other instead of about each other for nebulously partisan reasons seems dumb.
