The Americas The Tyranny of Trudeau's Canada

Just about the only standout difference compared to 2019 is that Bernier, while still losing his seat, has managed to jump the PPC's numbers from 1% of the vote to 5% this time. Assuming the debates commission is so kind as to not change their requirements to lock him out at the behest of their superiors in gov't, this does mean he'll at least manage to get in to the next election's debate.

This is actually a very good showing on the PPC's part, given that they are such a young party. I think they have what it takes to be a force in Canadian politics and even if they don't taste power they are useful boot up the Tories's arse.

Agreed, if they can spook the CPC from its right flank and get them to start being actual conservatives again instead of continuing on this Liberals-with-blue-ties trajectory O'Toole is on - the way UKIP/Brexit has forced the British Tories to actually commit to Brexit and at least start to lurch rightward - that's probably the most realistic positive outcome we can hope for. Outside of Canada switching to a PR electoral system and the CPC breaking back up into the old Progressive Conservatives (dry-toast Canadian DINO equivalents) and Canadian Alliance (the actual right wingers) as a result, but since this election and the previous one will have demonstrated to the Liberals the benefits of making sure electoral reform stays dead for another generation that almost certainly won't happen in the foreseeable future.

The PPC has already cost the CPC a bunch of seats this election, enough to have vaulted them into minority territory and O'Toole actually did worse than Scheer (the previous CPC leader) both in seats and the popular vote, despite still beating Trudeau on the latter count, so with any luck his MPs will be sharpening their knives with an eye on his back as we speak.

Not exactly sure, as terms aren’t really defined in the Canadian constitution. Otherwise, Trudeau would have to step down as Prime Minister if we were operating on a similar system to the American one.

Ideally, it would be nice to de-fuse the Conservative Party into its two original parties that existed, prior to the merger. The ones that are not comfortable with O’Toole would be more likely to join the PPC. In certain Alberta tidings, the PPC candidates came in second, to the Conservative candidate in question, so there is hope.

Trudeau must be crazy to think he'll push for another election in 18 months. What's his angle ?

It's certainly possible to cheat in a Canadian election, just a lot harder as there are no electronic counting machines, and mail-in's have to be specifically requested.

He is however using near total obedience of the big media names to insure no one else can get their message out.

Id like to note succession is legal in canada, and both Alberta and Quebec have succession movements....

Wexit Canada (now called Maverick Party) is in charge of calling for secession within Western Canada as a whole, but they performed far worse than even the PPC. It is clear that secession isn't really popular right now, though Quebec separating might be more realistic.

Trudoughboy has really taken lessons from his communist idols on how to keep control of the media, that's for sure.
