How much science fiction was inspired by John Carter of Mars? I know he inspired Superman.

The Burroughs stories featured Space Feudalism as well.

But they did heavily influence and help form the genres they're part of.

Lord of the Rings, for example, while based on existing sources (e.g. folklore, Christian and Scandinavian mythology, et cetera), basically helped form all the tropes we know today in even long-standing franchises like Dungeons and Dragons (which in itself helped form other tropes/franchises).

It's the way of the world in creativity, though copying is not good, being inspired by is the bread and butter.

I'm not saying Battletech wasn't inspired by Dune (maybe it was in this respect) but Space Feudalism Noble Houses seems more broad to me inspiration wise then say, Mutant Space Navigators.

The X-Files and MIB.

The whole secret government conspiracy/alien invasion by the black goo was a small fry thing that the MiB let happen because it was of low significance and because they wanted the aliens to try and invade so thet they could vaporise them with superior tech, with some of the Syndicate/MJ12/Consortium actually working for the MiB and using their power to further the MiB's agenda.

And yes, Mulder's sister will be working for them and yes, he will get to join im on the fun, too.

Boston Legal x The Blacklist.

Redington is Alan Shore's log lost second cousin or uncle.

Now he needs some legal representation...

Lord of War x War Dogs, with either or both crossed over with Jormungand.

Zombie Land Saga x Macross.

Macross x Oshi no Ko

ZLS x OnK(probably the best one yet, with reincarnation being far from the only way for Ai to make a return.)

Lots.

Ray Bradbury at one point suggested that Edgar Rice Burroughs was the most influential writer in all of western literature. I'm not sure I would go that far but it's hard to overestimate his reach. Between Tarzan and John Carter of Mars he pretty much defined the entirety of both Pulp Heroes and Superheroes and due to being so prolific, set the mold for thousands of stories to come from Flash Gordon to Superman to Indiana Jones.

Burroughs is to adventure stories what Gary Gygax is to tabletop gaming.

Germans,not nazis,but you are right.
Listen there was no reason to bring this up beyond trying to drag your political argument's or thoughts concerning the whole Nazi=German in relation to Poland into this thread, as even the most unenlightened idiot on here knows Nazi's and Germans are a term we (English Speakers) use interchangeably when talking about members of the German Army or Government from the time Hitler took absolute power to 1945 so a correction is unnecessary.

In short, it's a derail and if you want to make a thread about this feel free, but otherwise try to bring this into a non-political thread again when you can discuss it in a designated thread and you will live to regret it.

Take this to be an unofficial warning.

All of this talking makes me want to mention a few things Return to Castle Wolfenstein and the abhorrent adaptation of PKD's The Man in the High Castle.

The two above individually or in combination crossed with Indiana Jones.

Since TMitHC had canonic dimension hopping and the others have schizotech/magic it will be easy to accomplish.

And to this we can add fun but mostly forgotten stuff like Sky captain and the world of tomorrow and The Rocketeer.

Sky captain can probably go well with the League of Extraordinary gentlemen.

And there we go, down the nostalgia rabbit hole.

Speaking of rabbit holes, well, some of the darker and edgier versions of(Think American McGee) Allice might go well with the Adams family and/or the Cthulhu Mythos.

A Thirties LOEG

Sky Captain, Rocketeer, The Phantom, The Shadow, Indianan Jones, Doc Savage. There you go. All of them , save for Doc Savage, have had movies made about them. You could even add in Captain America and Black Widow,as well as Peggy Carter.

All would fit in the time period. Add in Hydra as the bad guys a group that was founded by the Third Reich to find esoteric means to conquer the world.

Their first mission, October 31st, 1938.....Orson Wells was reporting real news not a radio program....

If you really want crazy go with the early Superman. No flight no eye or breath powers. He is as origionally touted. Faster than a speeding bullet. Capable of 1000mph on land. Stronger than a locomotive, upper weight limit of 800 tons. Able to leap the tallest buildings in a single bound, can jump 1000 to 2000 feet in one go. Can survive or ignore a bursting shell. Immune to 75mm howizter shells and lower.

Not the powerhouse we know and love but still not someone to anger.

I'd rather steer clear of Marvel/DC capesbit and the usual capeshit in general.

Never really got into films like Rocketeer and The Phantom IIRC when I tried re-watching them again, might've just been too campy/dated for me. But The Shadow was still entertaining IMHO. The main downside of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was the absolutely obscene lack of flying about in monoplanes doing stuff.

There's some neart crossover fanart about it on the internets of Nazi Smashing Golden Age/Pulp Era heroes doing stuff. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Some origins of the Kryptonian have him crash landing on Earth pre-WW2 anyhow so that too could be one of the groups period appropriate missions as well. Plus we know things like the DC Amazons were bouncing about whether in comics or the Cinematic Universes. The other thing is that even settings like Stargate or The Mummy have moments taking place around World War Two and the like.

Other than the Marvel and DC stuff how did it look?

The line up actually looks better with the Marvel and DC stuff. I recommend not catering to loud overly sensitive minority special interest groups. :p

I mean MIB +X COM is a given.
I imagine this would "feel" more like EDF meets X-Com, if the Ethereals (or your pick of classic "Man Behind The Man") are in a similar superior position. Just flat-out EDF meets X-Com is of course another "well I guess that works", infusing near-infinite ham into X-Com's stakes.

How well would a Stargate + MIB crossover look?
It would have to happen early on in SG-1 and fuck with Stargate cannon massively.

But basically the small fish not knowing it is in a big pond type situation, applied to the Goa'uld.

It would be fun.

Space is BIG really really Big. There are like a few hundred star systems withing 20 light years of Earth.

Heck, I remember when someone wrote a Tenchi Muyo Men in Black crossover. Jay took one look at Ryo-ohki and asked Kay if they needed to take her in for shots. Kay responded that that was not a pet.

There was also a Dr. Who Tenchi crossover... the Doctor was Washu's estranged husband.
