Hmm, gay people aren't allowed to stay single, else the community will complain that they're gay in name only. All gay people have to hook up in modern movies. So if Ruffnut's gay they either have to make Astrid gay/bi to hookup with her and ignore Hiccup entirely, or add another female character. Astrid can't hook up with Ruffnut and also Hiccup else they'll complain that it's really a disguised harem for Hiccup.

They could throw in some of the other female characters from the books, like Kamikaze, or females from the TV show, like Heather, for that purpose, though.

One of the few ancient peoples who have managed to avoid black washing to some extent are the Romans, and I reckon that's because the Imperium Romanum is everything the left despises so wouldn't want any of their pet minorities to be arch imperialists.
