So there's over 125,000 deaths from this virus, That's 125,000 deaths that could have been prevented if the world took this virus more seriously and China didn't have disgusting food practices .
To be entirely fair; the food practices were put in place by the Chinese Government and then promptly encouraged. Now the thing is, the wet markets across the world usually have live chickens, fish, and seafood.
In China they took the concept to whole new levels. You see, in the 70s, the vast majority of China (being rural countryside) were on the verge of total famine and the CCP controlled all food production. When they finally allowed companies to control the food production, local farmers were forced to farm wild animals.
And then the CCP promptly decided to make money off of it and encouraged it. And then they wrote it into law, making wildlife 'natural resources', allowing farmers to effectively farm any and all wildlife.
Which in turn creates niches for illegal wildlife farming/poaching because of niche markets; enhancements and the like.
Wet Markets in China were basically completely unregulated and allowed to disregard safe food practices that we'd otherwise enjoy here in the US and the European nations. Which increases the likelihood of viral transmission from animal to human.
This video explains it more in detail.
