Revolutions against the ruling class do not come from the poor. They never have, the poor are too busy working to try to put their next meal on the table.
Revolutions come from the middle class. The French revolution, the Bolshevik revolution, the Chinese revolution, the American revolution, all the result of an angry middle class tearing a strip out of the ruling elite and seizing it for themselves.
Thus there's a certain type of elite who thinks the path to power is secured by destroying the middle class so that there is only the ruling elites and the super-poor, thus guaranteeing that they can't be overthrown because there is no middle-class to become disaffected and overthrow them. This was a major part of Marxist thinking, one need merely look for how much hate and bile is directed at the "Petty Bourgeois," that is the middle-class, to see how much they hated the middle class. They ddin't direct hatred at the elites, for in their hearts they saw themselves and future elites and didn't want to lay the groundwork for their own destruction, but rather turn the world only into themselves, those who rule, and those who are too poor and too beat down by life to every act against those who rule.
