Yet they cannot tell churches what to do (Referring to DeSantis, Kemp, etc from threatening these churches on how they run things).

No, but they can bring charges against the churches for aiding and abetting immigration fraud or harboring illegal immigrants.
Churches abusing thier status to help cover up and facilitate crimes is nothing new, and neither is leveling charges on the clergy when they do.

One of the most aggravating things to me, is when large denominations try to handle shit like pedophile priests 'in house' to avoid embarassment.
It's so stupid.
If you want to keep as much egg off of your face as possible? Hand the offenders over to the police and facilitate the investigation as much as possible. Show that while some members of your institution are corrupt, there isn't a culture of corruption within the institution. As soon as you find out (with reasonably solid evidence) that someone in your organization is committing serious crimes, you do everything you can to get that out.
