a dude just got booted for saying “Hitler guy is right.” Which is harmless. It’s a bad direction. It’s not going to pull anyone, it’s going to cut down on activity and the user base, it’s a terrible idea, and it’s not going to go well.
If that’s all it takes to get a thread ban then the site really doesn’t have much appeal to me. It’s a gross overstep and it’s killing fun. One of my biggest issues with SB is that you’d get points for making jokes. You couldn’t be funny for fear of getting booted, for not taking a topic seriously, for being offensive, and if that’s all it takes to get thread booted then screw that.Thread-banned. He got thread-banned.

It’s a J O K E. An obvious one, and one that LI didn’t really complain about as far as I’m aware.Ironically, we made that rule to protect people from being falsely accused of being Nazis by leftists, but as a matter of principle, we apply all rules equally to all people. We hit Sane for referring unironically to LI as a Nazi. That's why it warranted a thread ban.

A Venetian coffee house sounds snooty and European and supremely gay. Not a fun time in the slightest.
Yep. Because your idea of what civility is is a Venetian coffee shop where you can’t make a basic and simple joke poking fun at someone harmlessly. Is it so hard to expect people to actually follow the bloody rules? Is that too big of an ask? Is it too much for grown adults to respect the fact that this space has had civility rules from day one? Really? Is that too much for you?
If it ain’t America it doesn’t matter. Venetia, Viennese, it’s all the same. Trash.Viennese coffee house! Not Venetian. Vienna is the happening place that has fostered the viewpoints of everyone back in the day.

How long until it isn’t? I mean it seems like the only difference between me and Sane and our humor here is that I have a better standing with the moderators here. You may notice that you haven't been hit, which tends to imply that your sense of humour, even if crude, is actually perfectly within the rules (because it in fact is).

No, it's because you haven't violated the rules. That's it, full stop. Keep on not violating the rules and guess what, you won't be hit for violating the rules. See how this works? How long until it isn’t? I mean it seems like the only difference between me and Sane and our humor here is that I have a better standing with the moderators here.
I can answer this. A number of things finally catching up to us at once. As many of you may or may not know I have been running a. Outreach program to get others to cross pollinate to our board. Not to leave the other boards, but just also post on ours too. And I've been fairly successful at this. However a group of people who I had in fairly high esteem soundly rejected us. Then they showed us why. I conferred with the Staff and we did an internal investigation and found that not only was it true, it's been going on for a while. We debated about what to do and here you see the results. That's how this came about in a nutshell.
We admit to being slow to catch on and missing the signs but we can and do learn.
So the classic "shoot the current audience in the foot to try to pander to a potential new audience" strategy that's killed countless properties over the past few years? When did "Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" stop becoming common sense?
