a dude just got booted for saying “Hitler guy is right.” Which is harmless. It’s a bad direction. It’s not going to pull anyone, it’s going to cut down on activity and the user base, it’s a terrible idea, and it’s not going to go well.

Thread-banned. He got thread-banned.

If that’s all it takes to get a thread ban then the site really doesn’t have much appeal to me. It’s a gross overstep and it’s killing fun. One of my biggest issues with SB is that you’d get points for making jokes. You couldn’t be funny for fear of getting booted, for not taking a topic seriously, for being offensive, and if that’s all it takes to get thread booted then screw that.

Ironically, we made that rule to protect people from being falsely accused of being Nazis by leftists, but as a matter of principle, we apply all rules equally to all people. We hit Sane for referring unironically to LI as a Nazi. That's why it warranted a thread ban.

It’s a J O K E. An obvious one, and one that LI didn’t really complain about as far as I’m aware.

Is it so hard to expect people to actually follow the bloody rules? Is that too big of an ask? Is it too much for grown adults to respect the fact that this space has had civility rules from day one? Really? Is that too much for you?

A Venetian coffee house sounds snooty and European and supremely gay. Not a fun time in the slightest.

Viennese coffee house! Not Venetian. Vienna is the happening place that has fostered the viewpoints of everyone back in the day.

Yep. Because your idea of what civility is is a Venetian coffee shop where you can’t make a basic and simple joke poking fun at someone harmlessly.

If it ain’t America it doesn’t matter. Venetia, Viennese, it’s all the same. Trash.

You may notice that you haven't been hit, which tends to imply that your sense of humour, even if crude, is actually perfectly within the rules (because it in fact is).

How long until it isn’t? I mean it seems like the only difference between me and Sane and our humor here is that I have a better standing with the moderators here.

You may feel that's the case, but from my perspective, it's not. We have huge numbers of complaints about Sane, and very few if any about you. Complaints are initiated by users, not the staff.

No, it's because you haven't violated the rules. That's it, full stop. Keep on not violating the rules and guess what, you won't be hit for violating the rules. See how this works?

I can answer this. A number of things finally catching up to us at once. As many of you may or may not know I have been running a. Outreach program to get others to cross pollinate to our board. Not to leave the other boards, but just also post on ours too. And I've been fairly successful at this. However a group of people who I had in fairly high esteem soundly rejected us. Then they showed us why. I conferred with the Staff and we did an internal investigation and found that not only was it true, it's been going on for a while. We debated about what to do and here you see the results. That's how this came about in a nutshell.

We admit to being slow to catch on and missing the signs but we can and do learn.

So the classic "shoot the current audience in the foot to try to pander to a potential new audience" strategy that's killed countless properties over the past few years? When did "Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" stop becoming common sense?

Okay my turn to explain my feeling's on the issue but while I write it up I ask everyone this question "If you disagree with the staff how should this be handled?" debate that while I write rather than act like their some elaborate plot for five minute's...

And just like that it begins.

The center cannot hold, the falcon cannot hear the falconeer.

This thread may have been meant to "be clear and smooth thongs over" but it has done the exact opposite and instead shown a slide into the same problems killing the other websites. I leave here my simple opinion on the matter of this sort of idea from ST:TNG which was delivered to us by Piccard (whose actor apparently did not fully grasp it's meaning fully as we can see today)

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied – chains us all, irrevocably."

The first link is now here, and we all know it will never go away.

The admin staff is free to have their own reasons to agree with things. Spartan was explaining his own personal reason for supporting this course of action. As for myself, I do not mind how badly outnumbered I am--Aristasians don't live, as a matter of principle, for numbers, and don't make compromises with the Pit and bongos for the sake of recruiting--but rather because I felt I had genuinely sinned by not promoting a more harmonious environment on this board. I actually want us all to be friends... As silly as that may sound to you. We are very much alone in a hostile world, and we need to stay together--including the leftists who remain brave enough to support free speech in an era when even free speech is under assault. To me, that includes being civil to each other.
