This so much. Humans need faith. If you try and remove religious faith all that happens is other things replace it, and most of the time the result is worse than church.

Nietzsche spoke about outgrowing religion and his famous "God is dead" quote. Ironically his quote is one of the easiest ways to tell if someone is a zealot atheist: if they use it when justifying their atheism they probably aren't as smart as they pretend to be.

Most people who abandon religion fully replace it with shit like totalitarian utopic politics or rampant hedonism. Very few actually move towards better things.

Most humans need religion, but not all. I am pretty sure there is a genetic aspect to it.

I am an atheist and no matter how much I want to, I just can't believe in any sort of afterlife or sky wizards. But... I am an actual atheist, not one of those nutjobs who worship communism/hedonism/woke cult/etc.

It is awful btw. ever since I my understanding of biology has reached the point where I realized biological immortality / brain uploading will not be achievable during my lifetime (if ever) I have been wracked with depression and existential dread. 0/10. would not recommend.

This clearly explains who humans evolved to be believers who need and crave religion.

Because Buddhism started from a man devising a philosophy from the religions of the world around him, while Communism came from a man devising a philosophy from the perceived problems of Capitalism long before the Gilded Age. The Buddha looked at the world around him and made his own refinements of those already-working ideas, while Marx was trying to devise a successor to a rather new system who's actual problems were yet to occur.

I posit that the fact that "work dad, working mom, kids raised by state, no other family" being the norm is a huge part of why the current insanity began.

The nuclear family plus worked just fine until society around it tore it down, not the other way around -- though, I suppose it could be considered more a feedback loop; society tears down nuclear families, and broken families/people contribute to the breakdown of society e.g. kids raised by single mothers, et cetera.

It is very much a death spiral, yes. And it didn't come out of nowhere.
There were a series of massive blows to the family structure of the years.

I disagree that it was a huge part of why it began -- things were fine for decades before things death-spiralled, but there's no doubt that the lack of a nuclear family plus is now cause and effect along with other factors. It's... disheartening.

There have been studies done that kids coming from single parent households tend to be, well, broken, or those that lack strong, male role models in their lives end up having skewed views on life (which, given how feminism has spread, creates even further problems when they date or marry women with such ideas, which perpetuates a cycle).

Either way, how the West is going at the moment? It's crumbling, and feminism, and I mean "feminism", is a core reason why.

I understood that your "extended family" was that aunts, uncles, et cetera, had active and constant roles in children's lives like the parents (should be), not one where they're present and regular presences but not constantly acting as second parents.

Having, say, an uncle or aunt come around, like, once a week to hang out for example, is great/fine, but not when they're around almost every day and acting as second parents. I think that's where our definitions don't match up.

i see. well uncle visiting weekly is indeed a mid step between total isolation from extended family and them living next door. So fair enough about calling that nuclear plus. My original post lacked granularity
