Iconoclasm Amongst Science Fiction and Fantasy Creators

Of course; I just felt like being pedantic. Then again, if the ingredients were destined for the garbage otherwise, and my time is basically worthless (which, considering how much of it I waste, it is), is it really that much of an imposition? Something to think about.

If you genuinely believed in what you were doing and liked it and knew why you were right, it’s a “selfish” act

You didn’t have to be forced or threatened to be good or caring, because you truly chose for yourself

And it’s not a waste of time, due to this genuine belief and joy from your true choice

Plus, that food didn’t cost as much as the unintentional side effects raising those taxes did

It’s no more a waste of your time and money than going off to watch a movie you genuinely like

Getting back to the topic, anybody else here sorta realise this can be “solved” by remembering that cliques exist and you can find people who exist outside of the biggest clique that’s taken over scifi & fantasy when it comes to books?

Amazon is surprisingly okay with selling the works of guys who would creep out regular conservative or libertarian authors for making them look bad due to others associating them with him or something

There are enough classics that every educated adult should read as a bare minimum to keep them occupied for a decade, hopefully the rot of popular fiction will drive people into that exalted past.

What will get people to look to the classics instead of just waiting on the shitty present and shitty short term future? Doubt they’re as advertised

Raise them into it. Have ten kids, raise them correctly.

This is unironically the most effective answer.

Well, now that I think about it, there’s actually giving them said books instead of taking them to the ol young adult section

People are very used to just looking for the current trending series or new one, but there are series still being republished till now

I’m pretty sure lots of people have heard of Lovecraft and memes on him, but never read his works

As we've talked about (briefly) in the past, I've found lovecraft to be a pretty poor introductory text. I usually suggest the iliad to people just getting into classical literature, its an easy read in the right translation.

How about Robert E. Howard? I don’t think many people know that Conan was originally a character in books and is probably way more intelligent and clever than Arnold Schwarznegger’s depiction

I haven't ever personally started someone off on Conan, but it seems like a decent choice. However, I wouldn't really call Conan classical literature. More "classically informed" popular fiction. Still important to read so that you understand the foundations of the last century of popular fiction, anyway.

You know, I somehow think there is a problem with certain pieces of fiction becoming “iconic” and sorta getting people to not realize that there was so much more from before

Hell, I think there’s even a problem that people just KNOW OF said iconic fiction than ever actually reading it

How many people know of how Frankenstein’s the monsters creator rather than the monster itself and how strangely intelligent and tragic it was

How many people actually ever read Marvel/DC and mostly just know memes based on some characters like Superman?

It's not an accident that the study of classical literature has fallen by the wayside.
It all comes down to a concerted effort by teachers at every level to dismantle the literary underpinnings of society.

Might be somewhat too paranoid on that one or they’re just not interested in really old stories

When they can over analyze and “criticise” the more modern stuff they can make all sorts of accusations over

Also, I’m surprised that Arthurian Mythology had so many more characters and story than the mere bly pulls out a sword and becomes king, thing

Didn’t even know that Lancelot was a nicer guy outside of sleeping with Guenevere

I mean, theres nothing paranoid about it. Theres no "theory" about it, the ruling class of academics has openly argued for the destruction and desecration of the classical education system for the better part of a century.

What reason do they have for it? Did they decide that the times of the past are overrated?

It's an intrinsic part of post modernism, the academic philosophy that absolutely dominates the humanities at the collegiate level.

Say, what exactly is the full definition of Post Modernism?

I think part of it involves “Cultural Relativism” and something about bever really judging other peoples’ cultures even as you acknowledge that they have horrible practices like eating dogs and forbidding women to walk free and unveiled
