Musk actually buys Twitter.

Is it what we would have liked?

No.

Is it better than it was?

Yes.
Here is the thing.
Musk just finished a closed door meeting with apple CEO and they came to an understanding, and apple approved of the new twitter.

This is an attempt to avert a rebellion by creating the illusion that:
1. things are getting better
2. that we are rolling back on the woke party line of [literally every "conservative" is a terrorist] and back into "ok ok, we will only go after real nazies this time"
(conservative in this context means not a wokie)

It is an attempt to create the illusion of a return to the liberal status quo of 20 years ago. Pay not attention to how the middle class disappeared and get back to work peasant.

> Twitter is now a free speech platform!
> Exceptions: conspiracy theorists, nazies, hatespeech, people who insult the owner, people who the owner doesn't like...

I don't think people understand what free speech means.
He hasn't hit people for attacking the owner. The exceptions are hate speech, CP, a very large interpretation of what incitement to violence means (in terms of the Antifa hits, many of those are legal but awful) and Alex Jones.

It's not free speech, but it is a guy actually taking a personal stand, which allows us to criticize him for it. He is taking ownership of the problem, a vast improvement.

Also, this has not been a return to the illusion that was. Twitter cannot maintain that without a severe amount of censorship, which Elon will not have. It only worked in the first place because the Cathedral controlled the news, but now in its Bazaar form, such illusions do not hold.

You have it backwards. it is not that twitter broke the illusion.
The illusion was broken before it.
With CNN having literally no viewers and almost everyone knowing the news lies.

This is an example of a smart liberal who sees the pendulum is about to swing back. and is trying to instead ease things back a bit to stop it

Twitter is never going to be an "anything goes free-for-all". Just like TS isn't and never will be.

There will be limits on what's allowed.

Lol no. The illusion has been breaking ever since the internet existed, bit by bit. Twitter (along with social media) was a big part of that, the cathedral noticed, and tried to rein it in. That has suddenly, explosively failed, instead of the graceful fail that could have been if they had done nothing. The Narrative(tm) is now going to die despite attempts to keep it alive.

EDIT:
So a big update, Ro Khanna, a prog Dem Congressmen who actually walks the walk, tried to convince twitter to let the Biden laptop story flow. Good on him. This and his actually principled objections to escalating the war in Ukraine means I'll put him in a small group along with Jimmy Dore as leftists I like.

Remember this boys. As much as lefties are morons, they aren’t all entirely awful people. And a surprising amount of them have lines they don’t want to cross.

“Remember the human” and all that.

The real power is int he hand of those who manage the capital, not those who own it, or those who work it.

I think it’s more of a case of those who own the capital have gotten a bit absent minded and the managers have gotten carried away with themselves/got ideas above their station.

True power still mostly resides in the hands of the owners, they’re just shite at wielding it.

Except his concerns wasn't that it was wrong, but that it would hurt the party more than help it.
No, it was that it was wrong. That's his whole first paragraph.

Then he added a sentence that the backlash would be worse, but if you are appealing to a rabid partisan, that's an argument you make. Note that all the other Dems who commented just basically went 'good'. I'm inclined to support him here. It also further emphasizes that the rest of the prog dems are trash. Only Ro Khanna has stayed anti-war, and apparently he's the only one pro-free speech as a principle, even when it hurts his side.

On topic: if Musk is going to ban Nazis (which is an understandable desire), he should at least be consistent and ban all commie apologists, too. But I expect the adherents of history's most depraved ideology will once again get a free pass...
Thing is, on the face of it Nazis are the most reprehensible given they start the conversation with “I want to kill everyone who does not fit my skin tone and especially (long long series of slurs)”. They are manifestly unpleasant which is hard to meet. Commies on the other hand go abit less murder happy in directly talking to them, and are a lot more fun to fucking mock. In my own experience at least, I can mock a Commie all day, but just want to close the computer when arguing with a Nazi.

Edit: Also a Note: it’s really not that uncommon to find a Franco or Pinochet apologist on Twitter. There abit more niche but they haven’t been banned, even when they say some really vile shit.

What i am seeing in these files is a complete vindication of the idea that the old marxist distinctions of class, of labour and capital are obsolete. The real power is int he hand of those who manage the capital, not those who own it, or those who work it.
It actually fits my five social class better:
Laborers are primarily concerned with survival.
Merchants are primarily concerned with wealth.
The political class sacrifice wealth for power.
The priest class sacrifice everything for abstract ideals.
And it is a sin to associate with the untouchable class.

Yep; the 'stood up for his principles' was likely just CYA papering over how he was smart enough to see how the GOP could use this against the Dems if the House and Senate flipped.

And being against helping Ukraine defend it's borders and reclaim the land Russia has attempted to steal does not help his image either.

It really has become rather interesting at how Russian greed and malice has helped out those who want appeasement of Russia at effectively any cost, and showed how often those types exist on the fringes of both parties.
