China Propaganda and Protest over Wuhan Virus

you have to understand that even though its incredibly akward for the dems and expecially the activists there is bipartazin support for taking china down a notch. Quite simply put America has 30 years worth of grudges with china over things as diverse as human rights, intellectual property theft and a host of issues. The current plague is just one more broken straw on a camals back.

If Biden wins there will be a trade war with china and the gloves will come off, if Trump wins the same. China has quite simply put started beliving their propaganda and the American government is sick of it.

I don't know about that; it seems like the regressive left don't really want to hold China to account for anything. The narrative keeps drifting towards the idea that doing so is racist. If Biden wins, I can't see him conducting a trade war with China; on the contrary, I think he'd try to kiss up to them in the hopes of returning to the pre-Trump status quo.

Lol kiss up. Now you got me thinking he'll take one of them for girls and start sniffing their hair.

Yeah, I tend to agree with this assessment. Many of the industries that are core to Democratic support (media, high tech) are very beholden to Chinese interests. I suspect they'll want to return to business as usual and attempt to paper over any pushback by labeling those concerned with it racists and nationalists.

It will be really fucking scummy as hell when they do just that, Biden goes on about being hard on China only to start being friends with it instead

And people may try gaslighting and pretend they never said they would go against it and such

Hell, they may stick the blame on the USA and act as if it wasn’t from China at all or if it was from
China it was still the USA’s fault

When they do.....they’re gonna probably get lots of people to #WalkAway

First, the government is not banning speech as a whole. It's banning protests due to the nature of the disaster that we are dealing with. People can bitch online. Fox News and Gateway Pundit can continue to complain that this is just a cough and no big deal. Just not outdoor protests. And as someone who is very cynical about how effective such protests are in general (remember the Iraq War protests) it seems to be a reasonable measure under the circumstances.

Now, did the governor of Michigan take things a bit too far? Sure, I'll agree on that. But we are not anywhere near ready to open up things. We need to build up an infrastructure to make sure we can handle things, particularly in terms of more testing and continually increasing medical capacity. And until that happens, the reality is that the economy is going to be annihlated anyways. Most Americans aren't staying home because their governors or Trump decreed that they had to stay home. They're staying home due to their own decisions. And it's really annoying seeing people on both sides act like people will stay in/go out just because our leaders dictate so.
She didn’t take it to far. Her orders are stupid and meaningless.
For example, I can buy all the lotto tickets and liquor I want in a big box store.

I can’t buy paint or seeds from the same store...
I have to go to another smaller store. So I have to make more trips.

We can boat on our lakes but we can’t use a boat with a motor. Because motors are evil I guess.

I can get pizza delivered to my house but I cannot pay someone to mow my lawn.

There’s a quote from Generation Kill that sums it up.
"If something happens to me, I want my wife to know the truth. If they say we fought valiantly here, I want her to know we fought retarded."
Gretchen is fighting this thing in way that makes no sense.

When Ideology overrides Common Sense.
Every time I hear a story about something stupid the government has done, like arresting people camping out in the wilderness, and I think the protesters who are against the lockdown efforts have a point; it turns out that said protesters are often just as stupid. Is it too much to ask for everyone to stop running around like chickens with their heads cut off, set aside partisan politics, and have some common sense? Apparently so.

The important difference is that when someone does something stupid, they generally affect themselves, and maybe the people immediately around them. Extremely wealthy people or pernicious planners can effect large numbers.

When the government does something stupid, in the best case it affects a relatively small group of people. Far more commonly it affects thousands to millions, and can scale up to hundreds of millions.

I once tried pointing out something similar regarding how governments have loads of bureaucracy and thus are open to mistakes or inefficiently using tax money or losing said tax money due to said bureaucracy's needs

They said that independent or private companies ALSO have bureaucracy and thus are equally as "bad" if so

Or that's how I recall it

I think whenever people think of others saying they're defending the Free Market, they're ONLY talking about the Big Companies, not the smaller ones or startups or anything in-between

That gets into both the issue I already raised over government having a lot more potential for destruction than the private sector, and then adds the issue that if a private bureaucracy becomes toxic enough, it'll make the company fail.

If a public bureaucracy becomes toxic, it doesn't just destroy profitability and make people who work for that company miserable, it causes increasing amounts of injustice in the legal system, and eats more and more of the citizens resources whether they want it to or not. If you don't like a company's business practices, you just don't do business with them. When that's almost impossible to do, you break out the anti-trust laws.

When the government bureaucracy runs out of control, well, you get things like the fiasco with the CDC when the Wu Flu outbreak first started.

I think these guys believe the whole idea that a "Free Market" or one without much government intervention & regulation turns into an extremely horrific mega corporation full of extreme cruelty & incompetence & guys minimizing costs to extreme levels

So Free Markets inevitably lead to Governments made up of Unregulated Corporations who will NOT close down if something like Wu Flu occurs because it'd make them lose money from not being able to have work done

Can't trust the private sector to EVER have any pragmatism and intelligence or acts of charity

Kind of funny how they forget about how conservatives believe in the right to keep and bear arms too. Awfully hard for a corporate government to keep you down either when you're armed.

Now this is new to me. Funny how the reason.com lolbertarians were reporting Justin Amash's useless run for president but not these armed citizens exercising their rights against a tyrannical government going down in his state today.

I'm betting they'll try depicting them all as Far Right Extremists and NeoNazi's

Are local ANTIFA or Black Panther equivalents or similar protesting alongside them?

They've been on this. First, reason.com isn't really good at breaking news. Second, they've covered the protests, repeatedly. Here's one:
