I have a way to salvage at least some of the plot of the Disney movies.
As a preface, the theme of the movies will be redemption.
With that in mind Rey is no longer a skinny human woman, but rather a
stocky, red skinned alien woman with facial tentacles. She has a can use the force untrained, but only with as special talent involving thechnology, and it is due to her species, but doesn't know what she is.
The second move starts out with some pilots/resistance officers talking about a planet being scouted near Finn. After a bit of drama, Finn reveals that the planet is used by the New Order as a gulag for political dissidents and also houses a few hostages to keep important people in line. The resistance decides pretty quickly that hitting this target would be a great way to weaken the Order, and the mission goes ahead. Heroes be heroic, people get rescued, and everyone starts loading up onto the ships to make a get away. This is all in the first ten to twenty minutes of the film.
But as they are about to make their getaway, there is a huge boom. One of the rescuees sabotaged the hyperdrive hoping to be rewarded by the order. After they get tossed out the airlock, Rey thinks she can get the hyperdrive to work using her force powers. But there are some problems, the ship is leaking fuel and much slower than normal while in hyperspace, allowing the Order to track them and then jump ahead to their destination. Rey also can't simply fix the hyperdrive, but has to meditate near the drive to keep it working, and is getting incredibly irratable and sleep deprived as the chase goes on.
Eventually we get to the confrontation, during the talk it out scene, Snoke does the classic come to the rak side line. Rey denies him, but he then laughs and say she already has been using the dark side of the force. He reveals that Rey has been using a dark side technique known as alchemy, and that is why her eyes are glowing yellow. Eventually they manage to board the superstar destroyer, and hijack one of the smaller star destroyers under construction to make their escape.
Third movie starts out be revealing how the Order has been getting all of its equipment: "An ancient Dark artifact associated with the sith, it has already been destroyed several times only to reconstitute itself thousands of years later: the Star Forge." Snoke has been using various hard ware hacks to control it. He never found the secret control mechanism, so he has only had limited access to its production abilities. While the Resistance and Repub are arguing over what to do about the Star Forge, Rey decides to try and steal it from Snoke. She reveals to the other heroes that after having her heritage revealed, she did some research and found out that she is the last of her species left in the galaxy. She wants to use the Star Forge's cloning bays (which Snoke hasn't been able to activate) to revive her species from the edge of extinction. The heroes go on an adventure through ancient tombs and the museums of wealthy collectors to find the Star Forge's control mechanism, and then use it to steal the super-weapon never to be seen again
