Taliban Peace Treaty

How much of the USA actually remembers or knows that stuff?

Information can be publically available and still be ignored or disbelieved or said to be fake

Oh a lot of Conservatives remember well. It's the left that tends to want to forget. It's weird how Egypt still wants to be our allies given how badly we screwed them with the whole Mubarek/Muslim Brotherhood thing. Lucky for us the Egyptian Military had enough of the Brotherhoods bullshit to remove them from power. The Brotherhood made it quite clear that war with Israel was going to be on the table and soon.

Maybe because they're still quite rational and so are willing to play ball? As fucked as they were before they may recognise their position on the board of this world?

“True Believers” on the other hand prioritize their delusions and self righteousness over longterm survival and forget how the enemy is holding back or can inflict far more damage than they can

So Trump disentangled US from Afghanistan, humbled Iran and made peaceful overtures towards north Korea by taking a personal risk and actually going to the country. This is the madman who almost started WW3 6 times by now, apparently.

Obama stirred shit up in Libya, Syria and Egypt, resulting in ruination of countries and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dead people. As well as not ending any of the other number of ongoing conflicts.

Who was the one that should've gotten a Nobel Peace Prize again?
At this point, it's basically a given that the Nobel "Peace" Prize, is in fact an appeasement prize.

It should be known that to the US government, the Taliban were never a terrorist group. This is according to 2018 research I found on them.
The state department only considers them armed insurgents.

And I am glad we are getting the fuck out. That place was worse then iraq to be in, since the ANP and ANA had Taliban implanted a lot, and killed a lot of good men when they turned against the US soldiers with them

Ah yes, I do remember this well. They said Trump is warmonger who would cause WW3. Nothing has happened. Trump hasn't started any new wars. All he has done is dump some bombs in areas that the US was already involved in cause of previous Presidents.

To be fair, the Soviet occupation and subsequent civil war were much worse for them, the American intervention was a nice change of pace for them
They did get their asses kicked to go back to gorilla warfare. Their friends in Al Qaeda too when Bin Laden finally got caught with what intel he had with him to destabilise the group further.

Taliban should at least keep in touch with the outside world to know fellow Islamic fighters but those they are in conflict with got skull fucked in Iraq and Suleimani someone that they don't get along with but should maintain a shaky relationship has become barbecued mulch.

Then few years ago they should know about the big fucking bomb Trump decided to give to Daesh in Afghanistan to destroy a well fortified cave fortress.

Had a good gig going there until Bin Laden decided to do 9/11. Now their backyard is a mess. They really should reconsider the next time someone decides for a second 9/11 because by then military technology and tactics will change again. Then that future time they might just get decapitated faster.

Given China's increasing interest in the region and the increased economic ties with various neighboring countries, personally I think its a good thing we are leaving. If the Kabul government falls, then let the Chinese deal with it.

Al-Qaeda still exists, but now is focused on burning down the Sahel, so I don't see too much of a problem there. Unless they should succeed in creating large safe areas again.

If it's true with the last line then Afghanistan will not be doing any terrorist activity for some time. Taliban sacrificed a lot of manpower purging Daesh.

But this opinion piece says otherwise.

Saying it neutrally but if I was an American with a link to Afghanistan I might be inclined to say good it's locals fighting other locals without me involved.

I’ve said it before. If Trump could exercise a little control when it posted to twitter and a bit more Presidential fashion wise. He would be a lot more well liked. Oh well, give it a generation when historians can look at his actions without the lens of today and he’ll be more well regarded (just like how Kennedy is starting to fall as many point out he didn’t do anything but kind of die young).

Trump absolutely sucks at message discipline. And his twitter tirades often create confusion and controversy where none needed have been.

I do think he should make hay out of this-"I got us out of Afghanistan, whereas Joe Biden's the self proclaimed heir of the guy who did the "surge" wants us to go back there for...reasons"

On one hand this is true, to a degree.

On the other hand, it makes him seem more human and not separate from the people he is President of.

We are getting to see Trump as he is, as he wishes to be seen, and not how PR handlers try to make him. Which is a breath of fresh air compared to past POTUSs.

For all that's said and done this war lead to Bin Laden dead. A very expensive cost but he's dead.
