Is there any way Ted Cruz can become Prez?
AFAIK he's born in Canada and that's a disqualifier for some reason.
He is American, or at least has US citizenship.
If he's disqualified why did he debate Trump in that Republican nominee show back in 2016?

The requirement isn't "has American citizenship" though. It's "natural born citizen" per the US constitution. There's some ambiguity over what this means. It's generally agreed that US citizens born in the United States meet this requirement, but it's unclear if US citizens born abroad do, and it's never legally been ruled upon. This was the subject of the Birther controversy- Obama's father was a Kenyan, and his mother had American citizenship, making him legally a citizen, as all children who have at least one parent with US citizenship are legally citizens, but it was alleged that he was actually born in Kenya, instead of Hawaii, and that this made him not a natural born citizen and thus ineligible for the Presidency.

Cruz has run for the Presidency, so he clearly believes that US citizens born abroad are natural born citizens. But it was an issue that came up in 2016 as well, and not everyone agrees with him.

Like someone born in Germany to two American parents.
Would they be allowed to run?
What about on a mikitary base?

My understanding is that military bases in foreign countries aren't US soil but embassies might be.

Obama was born in Kenya wasn't he? (I could be completely wrong here lol)

But I'm pretty sure natural born citizen just means you are born as a citizen. I don't think location matters, or Ted wouldn't have been trying to run for president at all
It is debated if he was born there or Hawaii

He claims he wasn't, and has released a birth certificate saying he was born in Hawaii. His father is Kenyan, which may be where the theory comes from. I personally haven't seen any good reason to doubt him being born in Hawaii.

I think the real root of it is boomers who know, on some level, that Obama isn't one of our people (i.e. White American / Amerikaner) and that this is important, but lack the mental toolset to actually consciously acknowledge that this is the issue, so they gravitate toward theories that let them express similar sentiment but which they can tell themselves aren't wrongthink.

FWIW I think we see a lot of the same stuff with the Q stuff. People fundamentally know that we're ruled over by people who hate us, that we were never asked, that we were lied to, and that things went fundamentally wrong. But it's perceived as safer to adopt a dumb or crazy theory that incorporates these elements than one that's evil (per the dominant moral framework).

It really just shows that Republicans can be every bit as stupid as the Democrats when it comes to partisan politics. The birther nonsense was just a desperate attempt to find a technicality to undo an election result they didn't like. The Democrats turned around and did the exact same thing to Trump with the Russian collusion story, which made it kind of ironic as IIRC, Trump pushed the birther nonsense himself. Of course, everyone seems to forget that Hillary was the one to start it during the primaries.

There was evidence that said birth certificate was forged, but I honestly can't bring myself to care at this late juncture. Whether he's a natural born citizen or not, I think what he did while president is more important. The bastard ordered the assassination of a child who was guilty of nothing but having a terrorist for a father; whom had already been killed weeks earlier, mind you. In my opinion, that's more than enough to damn him.
