Remember when they called Black Panther the first black superhero movie?

Remember how Blade 1-3 came out more than a decade earlier?

Pepperidge farm remembers.
Except for the terrible "Blood God" CGI at the end, the original Blade still holds up; Blade II, too.

Trinity was dogshit, though Dracula's design was pretty cool (especially the Reaper Strain elements in his design, which is a nice hint to the motives behind why they tried to "retro-evolve" vampires in II).

Oh, and Spawn was portrayed as black in his movie too wasn't he? There's another black superhero that predates Black Panther by more than a decade.

Because fundamentally, for most of them, they're just stroking their egos about how much better they think they are than everyone else.
The problem of course is whenever they do this the end product typically becomes dog shit. A good case is Snow White and Seven Misfits. I have no idea why they hired a woman who whenever she opened her mouth to talk about this once-in-a-lifetime role shit all over the 1938 movie. I love Disney but for fuck sake they need to just focus on making good movies and less on trying to shoehorn a message into literally everything they touch.

We don't need a lazy race swapped Ariel so they can say how inclusive they are. We need you to just make good movies. I wish that we could go back to the 1990s when they did that because the past ten or so years has been a real pain.

I'm sure some of it is her, but I'm assuming she was given guidance, if not by Disney then publicists or something, to be outspoken on it. She didn't sperg out on her previous roles like with Shazam and the Hunger Games prequel. Her behavior has also been different from other recent raceswaps. You don't see many people complaining about Halle Bailey's behavior who portrayed Ariel in the new Little Mermaid or MCU's Ms. Marvel actress Iman Vellani. And in the case of the former, that recasting is almost as obviously overt as the Rachel Zeglers is.

I could be wrong though. Maybe Rachel really is that annoying in general. She just took the opportunity now.

I'm sure she is fine all I'm saying is we all know why they did that. I would be happy to see them make a new The Little Mermaid movie but if they wanted to do that why didn't they? Why replace Ariel for :Black: Ariel, why not make somebody new and add to their list of Disney princesses? Makes no sense to me. I'm sure people would line up to watch it if they make it.

Women have always had roles, what has changed is that these days women are supposed to be men with boobs (maybe.)

Women in older movies might be "femme fatales," using seduction and cunning to achieve their goals. These had to play the game skillfully and carefully, subtle, yielding at the right times, making them far more interesting than the screaming macho Rambettes of today. In a game you would not be sure if she was on the level or playing you, and you could not afford to make the wrong decision with her without dangerous consequences.

For example, one might help you achieve your goal of usurping a ruler...then poison you so she takes over, since you did not know that she was next in line for the throne. Or maybe she has other motives, such as avenging her brothers who were executed wrongfully. You would also have to play the game trying to find out what you can about her- or else.

I believe we were talking about Disney Princesses though.

Aren't there Disney princesses who are Rambettes?

And this thread is about Disney, so "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars" are fair game too.

Maybe if you saw a vastly different series of Rambo films then I did.

Oh my bad. My apologies. I thought you were responding to the currently ongoing and active conversation, not bringing up a completely new topic of discussion similar to the ongoing one.

With that said I'm not sure how Indiana Jones or Star Wars is applicable anyhow. First movie had Marion who was quite formidable. And if any Disney Princess is a "Rambette" then Princess Leia is comparable to them when it comes to action scenes.

You might have a point but it'd probably be from a period of film preceding Star Wars and Alien and Terminator tbh.

That and a form of what CS Lewis called ‘chronological snobbery’.

Lewis defines this chronological snobbery as "the uncritical acceptance of the intellectual climate of our own age and the assumption that whatever has gone out of date is on that count discredited."
