Really doesn't matter to close one border, we have direct flights and global travel. We are well past closing the gates and pulling up the drawbridge.

But the real thing to watch is the 'vax resistant' label that is being applied to the Lambda strain, and how the powers in DC can use that to try to justify new lockdowns, new vax requirements for the general pop, and generally just destroy wmore of what is left of our freedoms and liberties.

There's a big problem there though, because then they'd start treading on big pharma's toes. No company worth its salt likes to see its product get besmirched, and the pharmaceutical companies have a lot of cash to back them up. There was actually quite a bit of that sort of talk in Britain which Astra Zeneca shut down rather angrily and, as it turned, their product remains effective.
For once, my government had the good sense to support them until everyone shat the bed over the whole blood clot thing.
No, it justifies new vaccines, or enhanced boosters, and thus more sales.
The narrative will be how the unvaxxed are responsible for there being a Lambda variant to begin with, not that the pharma groups did anything wrong.

For the White House to call these vaccines ineffective is outright insulting and incorrect, and would probably be deemed as such by big pharma execs. These companies do not take that lightly.
You keep thinking more about pride than money.
Having the current vax become ineffective due to mutations in the bug is just an opportunity for more vaccine R&D grants, vax/booster purchasing contracts from the US gov, and the gov/pharma will just blame unvaxxed for the mutations happening, not say their product is a problem.
