The Cross and the Crescent

Cross-and-the-Crescent.png

In 1066-1423, The Kingdom of Alodia would find itself with a string of great Conquerors, each adding large chunks, and allies to its mix. This would continue until in 1423, the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt would be conquered, and it would meet its greatest rival yet. The Ottomans.

The Ottoman Empire itself was vastly younger than the Alodians, but also had a slew of Conquerors themselves. when the Alodians were seiging out Cairo (Or as it is known in the Modern Era as Kayro) The Ottomans were Also seiging out the Mamluks, looking to seize the abundant lands of the Levant. The two would come to clash in the war, and the Ottomans would fight to push the Alodians back and out of Egypt, but would fail. While their armies were far stronger, their men were tired, and so the two rival powers would agree, that the Sinai Peninsula would be the border between the two.

However the Ottomans wanted the Wheat Belt and would attempt to spark an uprising in the Egyptian lands. The Alodians. ruled at the time by Makurian The Great, would find out about this plot. Putting down the revolt before it could even begin, the Alodians would supply uprisings of their own in the Ottoman Lands, aiding Albanians, Greeks and the Kingdom of Wallachia in defeating the Ottoman Sultanate, severely weakening the Red Crescent.

The Ottomans would be beseiged for some time, before coming up with yet another plan. After Assassinating several leaders of Arab tribes, they would conquer much of the Penisula, and attempt to invade through the south and north. This Invasion, known to many as the Fifty Years War, would be a bloodbath. an estimated thirteen million men and women killed, and fifteen million displaced. The beginning of the war would be a massive success, but when the French arrived things would go Awry. The French were great Allies of the Alodians, in part due to the Alodians penchant for attacking Barbary Pirates, and aiding in the French Invasion of North Africa in 1619. The French, who were vastly superior technologically, would wipe the Ottomans, aiding in the Levant Campaign. However things would take a turn when the English would Invade France, causing them to pull back. Things would then turn into a slugging match, that would culminate in a ceasefire.

To this day, mass graves of massacred civilians are still found from the war, many of these graves are from massacres perpetuated by both sides.

The Alodians and Ottomans would not survive the 18th Century, with the Alodians collapsing in 1767 and the Ottomans collapsing in 1799 after Napoleon's Crusade.

Greek Civil War

Beginning in 1946 and ending in 1949, the Greek Civil War is viewed as the first major event in the Cold War between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Otherwise referred to as N.A.T.O) and the Warsaw Pact (otherwise referred to as the Iron Curtain). This war, while not being viewed as much by either side, would change the fabric of N.A.T.O Foreign Policy.

N.A.T.O believed that by merely sending aid to the Kingdom of Greece, that the war would be won. This was the case in the beginning- until the Warsaw Pact would send Volunteers to train the ragtag Communist forces into a well maintained army. This army would trounce the Greek Army in a two year Operation known commonly as 'Operation Heracles' (not to be confused with Operation Heraclese). This was an attempt to force the Imperial Forces off the mainland and onto the Aegean Sea, where they could later force them to capitulate.

This plan would be an astounding success, that is until General Napoleon Zervas would take charge. Napoleon, would win an astounding victory in Sparta, leading to a full route all the way to the Corinth Canal. But it would be too late, Athens had fallen, and with it the Royal Family.

The Royal Family would fervently refuse to sign any peace treaty, and on Oct. 26, 1949, they would be publicly hanged, before their bodies buried in an unmarked grave. This action demoralized the remaining forces, and attempts were made to cross the Corinth Canal, but Napoleon's grip was too strong, and a ceasefire was drawn up within two months on threat of N.A.T.O involvement.

This outcome would trigger what would be known as a 'Red Scare', many blamed the senseless killings on Communists within their own borders, leading to incidents of mass lynchings of people of Communist/Socialist views, the most famous of which was the murders of
Jean-Paul Sartre and his mistress Simone de Beauvoir. The Greek Royal Family would be Canonized as saints within the Orthodox Church in 1998.

Back in Greece, the Communist would have a power struggle of their own. It would end with Aris Velouchiotis taking full control over the portions of Greece under Communist Control. Mass Genocide of those who opposed him occurred with some of the graves being found all throughout Greece in the Modern Era. His reign, which would last up until his death in 1969, would be violent, and full of mass genocide.

The Monarchist however, would be put under a Junta ruled by Napoleon Zervas, out of Patras. For Three Years the Hellenic Kingdom would be ruled by Napoleon whilst the Greeks decided upon a new King. Finally, in 1952, Nicholas Romanov, a descendant of Nicholas I of Russia would take the Throne as Nicholas I, King of the Hellenes.

Around this point, a civil War would drag Yugoslavia and the PRG into a war. The Albanian Socialist Republic would collapse, and so as to 'maintain order', the two would pounce upon the Albanians, splitting the lands between them. This act would forever hamper the two nations, as Economic sanctions would be placed on them by both N.A.T.O and the Warsaw pact. This would ruin the two nations economic power, and lead to mass starvation. It is noted that Cannibalism was practiced in many parts of Greece at this time, some devouring their family members.

To the South, Nicholas I would be known for his economic reforms, building the shattered Hellenic economy back onto it's feet. upon his Abdication in 1993, all loans taken out by the previous administrations would be paid in full. However not everything was sunshine and roses, many attempts were made upon him, most notably by a Russian Spy in broad daylight. This would incite the construction of the Αυτοκρατορικός Πληροφορίες επιτροπή (otherwise known as the A.Π.ε) An Information gathering (see the Word Spy Operation) designated on the protection of the Royal Family and the Greek People as a whole.

In the North, a full crackdown on the Orthodox faith would begin in 1969, as Aris Velouchiotis's son (who would succeed him as ruler of Greece) was an avid Atheist and hated religious practices as a whole. Churches were burned to the ground and those caught with religious items would have them removed, and sent to the scoupínosi (a form of labor camp) and those seeing preaching would have their mouths sewn shut. By 2021 it is estimated that 87% of the population does not even know who Jesus Christ is, and in the Albanian Lands the number soars to 92% when refering to Allah. However in the Hellenic Kingdom rougly 76% of the Population is Orthodox, 13% is Roman Catholic, 7% Atheist, 2% Islamic and 1% of other unnamed religions.

The Tenuous situation would continue until 2021, in which War would break out between the two powers, as Georgi Takitoupulis would order a full scale military invasion of the Hellenic Kingdom.

Why is the Peloponnessos part of Capitalist Greece? It was one of the hotbeds of communist activity OTL.

Personally one idea I've always played around with is Crete plus Cyprus becoming the Capitalist Greece in exile, while the mainland as a whole goes Communist and the Aegean Islands end up the Hainan Island analogue.

Personally I find it impossible. With the naval capabilities of Britain which would obviously be used to aid the Greeks I simply can't see the communist getting the Islands. that with how impossible it would be to invade the Achaean region... yeah, this makes plenty of sense. besides that, I've got a new map

No major lore. Basically the Umayyads of Al-Andalus are even more successful than otl and hold on till modern day, leaving behind a rich legacy. This graphic/map is made in the kind of the 'Peoples of the Soviet Union' graphic that was famous during the Cold War. Thoughts and comments?

How did Islam get mostly wiped out in Arabia by this point in time?

The Ghassanids are Pre-Islam, hell they were in existence during the fall of Rome. my headcannon is they took over Arabia, and had to deal with Islam rising up, yet they were able to stop it from completely taking over. I might do a actual map of it, though it'd have to be Mapchart.

The Dark History of Modern Greece

LwXeuKp.png

The Greco-Turkish War of the 1920s ended in a Greek victory. Things went rapidly downhill from there. Neither the Turks nor the Greeks had made it unclear what would happen to the opposing sides if they won and with Greek victory, the Turkish and by extension the Muslim population of the Aegean suffered for it. Starting in 1926, the random Greek Army attacks against the Turks and Muslims became official government policy, with the new Nationalist government wanting a 'pure Megali Greece' that would see the total 'cleansing' of Turks and Muslims from Greece. Around 3.9 Million Turks and Muslims became casualties of the Turkish Genocide, with around 2.8 Million Turks being ethnically cleansed, and forced to flee the helpless Republic of Turkey, who could only look at the situation with a mournful gaze. Around 1.1 Million Turks died during the genocide. The Republic of Pontus, which refused to take part in the ethnic cleansing was invaded in 1929 and conquered by 1932, despite some Turkish aide to the Pontic defenders. During WW2, Greece and Turkey both remained neutral, but remained in conflict when Pontic Guerillas successfully overthrew the Greeks and joined the new Federal Republic of Turkey under a federal and autonomy scheme to protect themselves from a second invasion. Since then, Greece has devolved into a rogue state. A closed off economy and a nation crippled by overwhelmingly military expenses centered around the Hellenic Council - a council of 5 neo-dictators of Greece. As tensions rise between Greece and Turkey over the remaining scattered Turkish and muslim communities in Greece, the memory of the Turkish Genocide is resurfacing as well.

NOTE: This map is not meant to offend anyone. This is a satire map against all the 20th century Megali Greece maps that simply create megali borders without understanding the full repercussions and consequences. Demographic numbers taken from:-
i. Ottoman Population, 1830–1914: Demographic and Social Characteristics by Kemal H. Karpat
ii. Armenians in Ottoman Turkey, 1914: A Geographic and Demographic Gazetteer
iii. Population History of the Middle East and the Balkans (Analecta Isisiana: Ottoman and Turkish Studies)
iv. Genocide in the Ottoman Empire: Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks, 1913-1923
v. Ottoman Greeks in the Age of Nationalism: Politics, Economy, and Society in the Nineteenth Century

NOTE 2: I made Pontus non-compliant to Greece in-lore mainly because Pontic Greeks and Pontic Turks did have very good relations with one another historically as well. Most of the historical Pontic Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing was committed by the Turko-Kurdish forces from outside Pontus itself, much to the horror of most of the Pontic Turks, who refused to work with the army for the remainder of the Greco-Turkish war historically. Similarly, the Pontic Greeks were very critical of the Greek acts of ethnic cleansing against Turks during the War and its government (Pontic Rep.) outright refused to consider the idea of Enosis historically. Iran gets a region full of Sunnis, but doesn't get the Shi'a-majority region. That doesn't make a lick of sense.

Pakistan should get the Farah region (full of Pashtuns, currently allocated to Iran for incomprehensible reasons), Iran should keep the Herat region and get Hazarajat, too. f you're going to cut up Afghanistan like this, such an approach makes more sense.
