ASOIAF/GOT ASOIAF Ideas, Recs, and Discussion thread

You know, it’s a bit of a wonder that Viserys & Dany were more-or-less allowed to wander Essos for years

Or that assassins and slavers and bandits didn’t take them along the way

Two of those three were Targaryen loyalists in the last war, and they all know that there's at least one in Essos. If talk goes toward overtures toward Daenerys, Varys will whip out Faegon, and suddenly Mace and Doran will be racing to see who can throw the Lannisters under the bus faster.
I don't get the impression the Tyrells care that much? About bringing back the Targs. Myrcella married to Willas, strikes me as something Mace would be very happy for-his son as "king". A Targaryen pretender on the other hand is not nearly as good a bet.

Anyway, slight change to the scenario-Cersei goes mad and has to be taken back the rock, but doesn't make some half rabid attempt on Marge's life.

Thus there is no offense to mend on the Lannister side.

It just seems to be that Myrcella as queen is better politically for House Lannister and House Tyrell than Stannis or Aegon.

Ancalagon The Black wakes up in Braavos confused and bored as hell and somehow ends up elected as Seaking of Braavos and Head of the Iron Bank

Should people fail to pay their debts, Ancalagon will go off and burn them all alive

This occurs right before Viserys, Ser Willem Darry and Danerys have a home in Braavos

Ancalagon somehow learned Economics from Morgoth who for some reason was thinking about industrializing Arda

Indeed.

Speaking of Silmarillion crossovers-I dunno maybe a small numenorian flotilla lands in Westeros.

20 ships and 9,000-11,000 men. Hardly Ar-Pharazon's glorious host.

But definitely enough to turn the tide of any Westerosi war. Say they land I dunno during the Dance, near Casterly Rock and back the Greens.

He, is Seaking how?

The dude was about the size of three mount everests. If he wakes up in Braavos, there is no Braavos and his mere movement causes a series of tremors that barrages the North with so many tsunamis the Others end up on the bottom of the ocean, furiously walking back to coastline Juggernaut style for a few centuries.

Ten thousand Numenoreans would decide almost any battle for whoever hires them and if there are any fertile females among the army, they'll break their taboo on single child households quick enough to turn 10k into 13k

From there Westeros would be fairly genetically changed, I should think.

Edit- Why does everyone name Jon Aegon in their fics?

And not Jaeharys?

Rheagar being a prophecy obsessed fucker would name him that or Aenar.

Jon's temperament fits the old king all the more and Rheagar's birth marked the trauma that caused his grandfather's health to decline.

Oh well fuck

Still, would be really funny trying to do politics with a LITERAL dragon

How can the Targaryens still call themselves “dragons” when a LITERAL one lives relatively nearby

What would be hilarious would be the Other's and their reaction. Because the Black Dread turned the armies of heaven back and fought Earendil in a battle that sank an area the size of Spain below the waves..with the rest of Beleriand going under due to the Vanyar and Maiar under the command of Eonwe

I like Aemon personally.

Jon won't be king though(show aside-that's not really what Martin is going for, but I think the show had the essence right-Jon will have a claim but give it up-like Aemon).

So I find speculation as to his "true" name to be pointless.

I think the Red Priests of R’hllor will argue whether or not he is Azor Ahai

Simply because he didn’t use a flaming sword while desolating the Armies of The Great Other

Idea: A new "establishment" opens up in King's Landing before the events of canon

It's "aura" attracts large numbers of people from all walks of life, mercenaries and pirates included

It's a "gym" that is ran by a Maester who spent decades learning exercises and martial arts to make extremely powerful bodies

Robert somehow ends up working out there and getting super excited

The guy who owns the place flexed and caused everybody to think all their clothes ripped apart

Inspired by Hear Me Roar:

Stannis in the War of the Ring.

One week to the day before the Battle of the Blackwater-Stannis is ISOTed alongside his fleet and two armies to Belagear. He finds with him, all the islands under his authority in the narrow sea-Driftmark and Dragonstone, with his mercenaries from Myr alongside all his forces south of the Blackwater Rush. As well as the garrison in Storm's End.

Dragonstone is about 20 miles off the coast from Lond Daer - Tolkien Gateway. Alongside Stannis's fleet and other resources. About 20 miles southwest from the port.

This is within sailing distance of both the Grey Havens and Gondor. But is far enough from both that contact will not be immediate.

Stannis is ISOTed around 3015 T.A. About four years before the War of the Ring.

This will give him enough time to scout the area and also maybe allow some of the excess population to settle the abandoned port.

Though contact with Gondor shouldn't take too long as well as the Elves.

Stannis's bid for the Iron Throne is sunk, but now he is in a war against a much greater menace than the Lannisters and all other usurpers.

I expect some of the mercenaries to be lured away with promises of loot and wealth from Sauron. Also Melisandre will need to be watched carefully lest she succumb to the dark lord's will when scrying him through her flames.

Though Stannis siding with the good guys-should be fairly assumed. As he has no claim to any land here(beyond what will be given to him) and he isn't in the business of conquering.

You could have some tension between Davos and those who want to join with Gondor and possibly the Queen's Men if not Melisandre who see Sauron as R'hllor embodied. Or those who want to simply carve out a kingdom in an abandoned and depopulated land and let the two sides fight it out.

Anyway Stannis iron will vs the ring of power(or Sauron via palantiri) would be a true test of his mettle.

@Lord Invictus
Probably not just the mercenaries, but most of the soldiers, Stannis may not like warcrimes

But Planetosi all on average look to have an instinctual desire to commit rape, mass murder, torture and looting a few seconds in

Arda’s atrocities-for-fun look to mostly be done by Morgoth’s corruptions

I dunno about that, that seems to be fannon reaction to Martin conflating shit that happened during the nastiest parts of the hundred years war, the thirty years war, the fourth and first crusade and the French and Indian war with defacto military policy.

Europe didn't fight the way the Mongols did on average, hence the whole Chevauche and the whole "dragon banner" bit not being the first tactic one resorts to in war.

Tywin Lannister would probably be considered a gibbering lunatic by Edward Longshanks or Henry V.

He'd just get turned into a wraith.

placing him there, means he's more lilkely to interact with Erebor and Dale than Gondor I believe, or may find himself becoming prosperous as he's now a semi middleman between the two. a major and viable trading port in that area means he'll be under scrutiny from everyone.

Eh Dale and Erebor are far in land? Gondor is maybe a few weeks' sail to the south.

This....IS AMAZING!!! Probably doesn't work as anything other than a one shot, but the picture sells the idea.

Prompt: Jon Snow learns he has fire magic and warging magic due to the power of his mixed bloodline and the fact that he is the prophesized Hero of the Dawn, Prince that was Promised. He practices magic in secret attempting to master his powers, and things go off the rails when he uses warging/smell to discover the Lannisters who pushed Bran off the tower. Duty and love for his family makes him go to Ned Stark and explain how he knows what he knows. Ned uses the knowledge but tells Jon to keep it all secret due to the Seven hating magic. After that the plot should go off the rails. Jon should not be super confident and OP, just have magic and know how to use it. This means not winning sword fights blind folded and one handed and not rampaging like a bull in a china shop. Also no harems.
