Is it wrong that I actually hope that they'll do this, just to rile people up? Also because of historical irony, given the whole 'taxation without representation' facet of the American Revolution?

Yup, and it's not a new thing. In 1905 the Supreme Court ruled that laws requiring vaccinations are Constitutional.

True, however there's an addendum with this.

They are planning a tax.

And with a tax they run into other constitutional issues.

Mandating is fine. Still havnt done that. What is not good is requiring tax to be paid because of it.

I'm military, and even they can only mandate us to get it or they tell us to wear masks. Unless it becomes mandatory, they can not do anything to your pay when jt is optional.

The law the guy objecting to included a fine for those who didn't get vaccinated. SCOTUS said that was OK too so calling it a tax instead of a fine is a matter of semantics.

Knowing SCOTUS sided with this in 1905...I feel like this sort of thing is going to end up back in SCOTUS if people try it again.

Because the world and US has changed a lot since 1905, and the implications behind forcing people to get vaxxed, or pay a fine...that will do ugly things to the current situation if the precedent stands.

If it helps, I think that shadiness has more to do with the government wanting to assert control over your bodily autonomy than the vaccines themselves.

It is diffrent. A fine is a ome time payment. You can avoid getting it again by avoiding what you did last time etc.
Taxing someone is going to be making ot harder for them to live day to day life as you take more from thier livelihood

I voted Trump, I liked that he was an attack dog, but I thought he was kinda too much on the "chest thumping," side. They just want to write papers, look intellectual, and let the left trounce all over them. They're tereified of being tarred with lefty attack terms. They're fucking pussies.

The answer is in the middle ground of these two. Which is where I think people like Desantis fit in. Willing to be Stern, willing to fight back, but also making solid arguments and points, and Not just chest thumping. And not wasting time trying to fit the mold, and appeal to the lefty language, because the language is intended to confuse. We don't need their language. We have a language. Use Clear spoken English and be stern and forthright, without the need to necessarily be insulting.

That's what will win things back for us.

Yeah this is why I get frustrated over things related to Trunp...as Shrier says, it may be emotionally satisfying but it doesn't actually accomplish anything except pissing off the moderates who are very much otherwise opposed to the Left's agenda.

I am wholeheartedly in favor of DeSantis 2024 as well.

If you're asking whether I think the results were honest I'd say yes, but I'd also add that we are 1) still more than three years away from the 2024 election; 2) Trump has much bigger name recognition than anyone else among the rank and file, and 3) Trump is a weird case because he has quite a bit of support from the more conspiracy-minded folk (witness the "Trump 2021" shirts at CPAC worn by people who think Trump is somehow going to be "reinstated" as president (despite that not actually being possible). Plus quite a few Trump supporters I have encountered don't give a fuck about conservatism; they simply like Trump (who isn't really what one would consider a prototypical conservative in a lot of his policies).
