Russia can't strategically win its war against Ukraine; at best, it can only achieve a tactical victory, and even then, possibly only after years of fighting and hundreds of thousands or perhaps even millions of casualties. Ukrainians don't want to live under Russian rule. Not even those in eastern Ukraine. All of Ukraine thoroughly and decisively hates Russia's guts nowadays. If Russia will conquer all of Ukraine, most Ukrainians will simply move to the West (if an insurgency is not a feasible option). If Russia will conquer most of Ukraine, most Ukrainians will simply move to the West or to what remains of Free Ukraine. If there will be a shortage of post-war Ukrainian men, then Ukrainian women might simply have to resort to using Polish or Czech or Slovak or Baltic or Hungarian or Romanian sperm donors.

No; after all, if Ukraine's male population will be decimated as a result of this war, then there really will be a shortage of available Ukrainian men for Ukrainian women to marry, and the rest of Eastern Europe doesn't have a surplus of men, so ...

The time to prepare was 5 years ago, it is too late now.
The thing is rhe population of Ukraine isn't relevant to Russia. In fact if Russia drives them out that reduces the risk of partisans. They already have enough ethnic group problems. Their objective is the resources, the Russian populace in the region (much of which is already under their control) and more defensible borders.

Simply out of touch or intentionally done.
In some cases intentionally done, the greens are a mixture of delusional, cultish and fucking evil so thats a big part of it.
But the biggest issue is simply this.

Well yeah, you have to remember that the current international situation is very artificial america basically patrols the sea lanes and makes sure every power on earth can use the international ocean to trade with any one else. This is not the historical norm and it was done by the united states for a reason.
To bribe together an alliance against the soviet union, on top of that the united states stationed troops and helped fund western europes reconstruction towards that purpose. It worked it took down one of the most evil regimes in human history. But then the united states kept this largess going for 30 years.
For 30 years the united states basically let europe enjoy all of these benefits at zero cost and as soon as shale entered the equation the united states no longer had any reason to do world policing. And europe and the EU got arrogant. You have to remember that people were born grew up had children and died of natural causes while under America's security umbrella.
You have grandparents and grandchildren who lived under that world and they honestly took it for granted. And its all going away because any stable system is built upon reciprocity, and their simply isn't any of that with the current system.
Europe is in for a very hard time, and this ego will be horrifically shattered and the europe that remains will either rebuild themselves, or the united states will have to bail them out again and again until like the greeks and romans they end up becoming an american colony.

This also applies to western occupied eastern nations. Japan has over 50% of men identifying as "herbivores" which is their version of men going their own way. Literally over 50%.
