Two American volunteers recently killed during combat operations in Ukraine. Rest in Peace Edward Wilton and Grady Kurpasi. Edward Wilton, 22 of Florida was a US Army Veteran who traveled to Eastern Europe in April of 2022 with the intention of fighting in Ukraine. Roughly a year later, he was reportedly killed in or near Bakhmut on April 7th.

Retired Marine Corps Captain Grady Kurpasi was a highly decorated veteran with three tours in Iraq having joined the Corps after 9-11. He joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the early Spring of 2022 originally training Ukrainian troops. Due to a shortage of experienced combat leaders however he was soon seeing combat and was last seen alive in April of 2022. He's survived by his wife and fourteen year old daughter.

It has to be a hub for the Russian equivalent to the AMC - there's an Airborne division stationed at Pskov(used as plot point in Red Storm Rising). Didn't know about any Tu-22Ms stationed there, though.

It appears at least two IL-76 Transport Planes are likely total losses with at least two more with observable damage.

Also Russia potentially used a Mi-28 or other Attack Helicopter to Intercept a Ukrainian Drone over Russian territory recently instead of more traditional air defense systems.

I don't have anything against acronyms. Love 'em. But what I don't love is when letters get skipped, letters get added, or half the words are blatantly there for no reason other than a desperate attempt to create an acronym. And I really hate it when all three happen in a four letter acronym such as "Housing Repair for People's Empowerment" to HOPE. Sometimes it's just not meant to be, guys. We can't all be LASER.

A long article by Michael Kofman and Rob Lee who have been very active in reporting on the Conflict and their summary of the three month long Ukrainian Counteroffensive. Goes into details on the units used including some of the nine NATO-trained Ukrainian Brigades, as well as why Ukraine elected to pursue a multipronged advance in order to compel Russia into reinforcement dilemmas and has maps of the reported progress made on various fronts.

It also covers the errors made in the initial assaults due to flaws in coordination between ground assault forces and the artillery, Western criticism of Ukrainian offensive efforts and how they may or may not be misplaced with some analysis on how Ukrainians are actually conducting their Offensive (such as the Ukrainian desire to not mass forces for assaults). It also discusses the possibilities of an attritional War and how the Russians have been adapting on the defense, as well as the evolution of Ukrainian tactics.

It's a very long article with lots of interesting details and analysis on the recent months of conflict.

A thread below comparing the absolute numbers in shifts of controlled territory between the two forces since the beginning of the War. For example in the whole month of August Ukraine reportedly liberated 35 square kilometers of territory. Since the beginning of the counteroffensive in the beginning of June, they've liberated roughly 335 square kilometers of territory which is the biggest change in territorial control since last year. Russia currently controls 17.49% of Ukrainian territory (including the Crimea and Donbass since 2014/15).

After weeks of fighting Ukrainian forces have reportedly secured Robotyne and are continuing to develop their advance.

A long post detailing, from the Ukrainian perspective, the challenges that the 47th Mechanized Brigade primarily had to overcome during the fighting for Robotyne and the formidable Russian fortifications in the area.

Also in the area of Verbove, a Russian convoy was reportedly shelled by Ukrainian Artillery with DPICM.

Ukrainian Media showing a case of Iranian made 125mm tank shells in use by Ukrainian Forces. The Iranian tank shells were apparently manufactured recently as well, only in 2022. Supposedly unlikely to have been captured from Russian forces.

Russian Ka-52 Attack Helicopter Crashed in the Sea of Azov, reportedly due to bad weather. Crew survived.

Buba

A total creep
I wonder if the praise of accuracy of Challanger cannon may be due to fact of being new/freshly refurbished. Whereas Ukranian barrels already have fired hundreds? thousands of shot and/shells and are in need of replacement (relining?)?
