Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

More of a grab bag of War Tweets!

French volunteer embracing the local culture.

Two American volunteers in Ukraine.

Chechen video of their reported fighting in Mariupol.

Civilians apparently burying their dead in Mariupol

Russian T-80 got lost track. Just a neat perspective picture.

"Updated my journal." Best evidence/verification I can find right now. Long story short:

  • Russian forces are definitely in Rubizhne
  • Ukrainian forces are definitely in Possad-Pokrovske
  • Whomst the fuck knows with Izyum
For the first two we have solid video evidence. For the last we have An US Official saying Izyum was taken which is a bit sparse even by "an official" standards (typically they're making general background statements that are more or less confirming shit anyone sensible actually knew, it's useful but only reporters find it to be revelation instead of confirmation.) The fighting has clearly been very intense in that area but we're seeing very little footage coming out of it, too.

Well, their MO thus far has been, stick your military in hospitals and kindergartens and populated areas, like when they put artillery between apartment buildings.

How effective were the T-84 Oplots that Ukraine had fielded so far? I haven’t heard about their deployment so far, and those modified tanks are slightly better than most Russian tanks that are deployed.

Fielded? You can count all the Oplots in the in the Ukrainian in the fingers of one hand. I wouldn't be surprised if they were either in Kharkov or Kiev waiting for the Russians(just most of the best IJA tanks never saw action, being husbanded for the invasion of Japan).

Would Russians just do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?

Truly impressive operational craft from the Russians; they are consistently able to strike targets despite their drone's camera resolution being perhaps 1/4th of the ones the Ukrainians use. Exceptional training. Slightly frustrating though, as I can't actually see what they're blowing up.
You know military intelligence agencies edit these videos to be lower quality before releasing so they can hide how good optics are right?

Currently on break at work and using my phone. Apparently there has been massive strikes on Kyiv, their Air Defense fired off a large number of SAMs and sat recon shows fires throughout the city.
Not seeing any action or explosions on the livestreams.

Where are you seeing mention of it?

Got Sauce?

I didn't see anything in the usual telegram channels.

Also, note to self, write plugin to replace that Ukie shit with the proper spelling of Kiev.

Anyways, enjoy:

Another Russian Colonel reportedly killed near Mykolaiv apparently ironically named Igor Nikolaev.

Rob Lee offering an explanation of the behavior seen in video of Rosgvardia Spetsnaz when they came under Ukrainian fire.

'Armenian Eagles' have pledged troops to fight alongside the Russians in their Invasion of Ukraine.

To Berlin!

Or not...

Military Targets in Mariupol reportedly struck by Russian Liberation Forces.

Then why is all the drone footage being released by the Ukrainians of substantially higher quality? Or imagery the US releases? (Here's another example. And another.)

Don't the Americans take military intelligence seriously as well? 🤔

To Berlin!
"To Berlin" could be anti-NATO sentiment but I would not put high confidence in that. It seems very plausible that it's just fetishizing past glories (same as USSR/empire sentimentality) and "to Berlin" is something they did in the past to show how strong they were so naturally some dumbfuck paints it on the side of his ride without thinking any further than that.

Even if you want to downscale video to mask the real capabilities of the platform, there's no need to go down to like fucking 240i or whatever to do so, or if there is that's almost as damning.

It's sad. Being killed by Nazis in Ukraine, hundreds of miles from Berlin... Like many of his forebears seventy nine years ago in likely the same area while on an Operation of Liberation. 😪
