Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Question:
How does the missile know it's being attacked so that it can then trigger the flares?

No idea; could be a target lock sensor, could be slaved to a navpoint, could be both, could be something else.
Most likely a simple IR lock detector and it releases upon lock confirmation

So figures on what the Russians launched on Ukraine in response for sinking the landing ship.

Struck an Apartment in Odesa.

Almost killed a Priest Whilst he Was Working in a Church in the Same City.

A Maternity Ward in Dnipro was also struck. Twelve pregnant women and four newborns plus staff were thankfully already in the bomb shelter when the building was struck.

Essentially you have to stick a radar, thermal or something like that on the aircraft or missile that will look for incoming missiles.

There's a thread on Twitter discussing it (quoted within the post below). Seems like the internet experts are stating it could just be releasing flares in the terminal stage automatically as that is when it would be most vulnerable.

Seems to be an argument that the flares simply aren't efficient for countering air defense missiles.

Reportedly Six Or So Ukrainian rockets struck the 'Donbass Palace' in Donetsk During New Years Day Celebrations Where Local Elite, Military Propagandists and Russian Officials were in Attendance.

A Russian Su-25 conducted "an emergency descent of ammunition" and apparently dropped live bombs onto a residential neighborhood in Petropavlivka within the Voronezh Region.

Indian 155mm Artillery Shells Showing up in Ukrainian Service.

Rest in Peace Juan Camilo Camez Rodríguez, a 21 year old Volunteer from Colombia who died in service fighting for Ukraine in Donetsk.

Heavy Missile and Drone Strikes Affect Kyiv. Dozens Wounded, Apartments Left Burning and Several Hypersonic Kinzahl Missiles Were Apparently Intercepted By Patriots.

New Russian Yastreb Artillery Radar Destroyed within a day of making its publicized debut in Ukraine, struck by an Ukrainian GMLRS Rocket. The system was worth a reported $250 million.

A Russian Zala Lancet Drone Apparently Spotted an underprotected Ukrainian HIMARS a couple days ago but for whatever reason the drone didn't eliminate the target but instead reported its position to a BM-30 Smerch, the far superior Russian MLRS System. Shockingly that too missed the M142 HIMARS as well.

Speaking of which a Russian Zala Lancet Drone actually does bother eliminating a Ukrainian 203mm 2S7 Pion Self Propelled Gun.

Alleged Drone Strike Hit a Power Station in the the Russian Kursk Oblast, leaving a hundred thousand people without power for a short period of time reportedly.

According to Wall Street Journal reports, Russia is planning on purchasing short range ballistic missiles from Iran. This follows months of rumors that they were contemplating such a move but worried that the West would respond by providing more long range missiles to Ukraine or more new missile capability.

Apparently, they are having serious production problems...
Might have something to do with poor storage of their munitions, possibly the fact they conscripted workers out of their factories and just plugged in warm bodies, might also be due to the loss of imported microchips...you know...the little things.

I dedicate this post to all fans of "country X ISOTed to year ... " stories, where said country keeps on functioning more or less as normal.
