Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Documented Heavy Equipment Losses of both sides as of March 10th from the Kursk Operation.

President Donald Trump has alleged that thousands of Ukrainian Troops, in Kursk presumably, have been cut off and surrounded by Russian forces but Trump is making a personal appeal to Putin to save their lives.

Location of where Putin visited his military Commanders in Kursk.

However at least three seemingly intact Ukrainian M777 Howitzers along with a fair bit of ammunition was apparently captured by the Russians as they retook most of the Kursk Salient.

Five Ukrainian Prisoners of War were also reportedly executed by Russian forces in the Kursk Area in an ongoing trend of mistreatment of Ukrainian prisoners by Russian forces.

Ukrainian Forces have slowed the advance and even launched counterattacks against Russian forces in the area of Pokrovsk and Toretsk where Russian forces had seen some very incremental success the previous year.

A Russian National named Voislav Toiden (and Yan Petrovsky) was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Finnish Court for his alledged war crimes and other actions operating as a Mercenary in the 2014 Donbass War in Ukraine.

BBC said:
it found Torden guilty on all other counts, including that he was in charge of the Rusich mercenaries present during the ambush, who killed at least one Ukrainian soldier and injured another.

His men were also found to have mutilated a wounded soldier by "making the Rusich group symbol on his face".

Torden was found to have distributed "degrading" images of the soldier and to have posted on social media that Rusich would "not grant mercy".

A panel of three judges unanimously found him guilty of the latter four charges, writing that the most serious - of killing a soldier - was "comparable to murder due to its brutality and cruelty".

Aight, if it walks like a pincer move and quacks like a pincer move, it’s a pincer move. If I were the Russians I’d be looking to quickly counter attack or, if that isn’t possible, withdraw troops from the salient.

Ukraine has revealed it has developed a thousand kilometer range cruise missile based on the R360 Neptune AntiShip Missile.

The announcement coincidentally came out one day after a Ukrainian strike on a Russian Oil Refinery at Tuapse.

Ukrainian Osint Analyst Andrew Perpetua released some charts of Russian and Ukrainian vehicle losses.

Perhaps most interestingly he shows Russian vehicle losses by type from August 2023 til now and how the category of vehicle losses has changed rather significantly with far more ATV's and civilian vehicles lost in this three day Special Military Operation and continuing to increase.

Reportedly Russia launched a massive drone attack upon Ukraine using mostly Shaheds around the same time Putin's phonecall with Trump was coming to a close and Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov nobly stated how Russian called off planned strikes upon Ukraine and even shot down several of their own drones!

Prisoner Exchange took place where 175 Russian Prisoners were exchanged for 175 Ukrainian ones plus 22 Ukrainian prisoners who were hospitalized while in Russian custody. President Zelensky thanked the United Arab Emirates for their assistance with this negotiation.

Video released by Ukraine showing a montage of drone strikes against Russian targets in Crimea including multiple radar and anti-aircraft systems as well as an Mi-8 Transport Helicopter and a Russian military tugboat/offshore supply ship.

Recent Gallup Poll shows 46% of Americans believe American assistance to Ukraine is not enough, the highest its been since 2022 and up sixteen points from December. Concurrently, those believing America is doing too much (30%) or the right amount (23%) has shrunk since then.

Under the auspices of Project Artemis, Pentagon military suppliers are working with and evaluating Ukrainian long range drones and loitering munitions in efforts to improve their own similar drone development and manufacture. Some of the requirements for this project are a low price range for mass manufacture, a three hundred kilometer range and being operable in environments with heavy amount of electronic warfare, all of which Ukrainian drone manufacturers and users have extensive experience with.

Yeah, evidence UA units didn't have a good time retreating from Kursk, if they left at least 2 US supplied M60 AVLB bridges behind, when the US only supplied 8 of the things to begin with.

Those things are f'n slow compared to other v's. I'm not surprised they got left behind.

Quick to rust though apparently. They could just as well be losses along the lines of communication from the entire seven month campaign. Other OSINT accounts that didn't feel the compulsion to editorialize Ukrainian attacks as meat assaults did report the loss of Biber Bridgelayers though, at least one of them IIRC. Could be wrong but can't be arsed to look into it since the War is mostly boring to follow though. :p

Ukraine received at least eighteen AVLB's from the United States and possibly more then twenty five AFAIK according to Oryx and whatnot.

Haven't seen it here yet, but Ukraine performed long range strikes against Russian Air Defense assets in Crimea.

Emphasis was on engaging and destroying Air Defense Radar Systems:

  • 48Ya6-K1 Podlet – 2 units
  • 1L125 Niobium-SV – 2 units
  • 39N6 Kasta 2E2 (NATO designation: Flat Face E) – 3 units
  • 9C19 Imbir (NATO designation: High Screen)
  • Nebo-SV
  • S-300VM
  • Nebo-M
  • 59N6-E Protivnik-GE
  • Mys radar
Impact: The radars are the hardest thing to replace for Russia right now. Looks like Ukraine wants to pluck the eyes out of Crimean Air Defense.

Replacements will have to come from other combat units that are on the line already and suffering shortages of these same systems too.

Feels like we may see a large scale air strike from Ukraine towards Crimea soon. I'm betting it will be a combination of drones and long range cruise missiles initially.

Negotiations in Saudi Arabia between American, Russian and Ukrainian "Expert" Groups has read out the results of the current round of meetings.

Some of the results are the ending of financial sanctions to the extent that Russia can engage in international trade with food products and fertilizers and lifting sanctions on those Russian businesses and Russian ships involved in the food trade as well as lifting the restrictions on exporting agricultural machinery to Russia.

Once the above is done, there will be a Black Seas ceasefire including the non-use of force, no use of commercial ships for military purposes, and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Black Sea along with appropriate inspection and review of vessels to enforce this.

Article:
How Russia behaves in the coming days will reveal a lot—if not everything. If there are air raid alerts again, if there is renewed military activity in the Black Sea, if Russian manipulations and threats continue—then new measures will need to be taken, specifically against Moscow.

Diplomacy must work. And from the Ukrainian side, we are doing everything to make that happen.

I thank everyone who is helping. I am grateful to the United States for the constructive and effective work of our teams.

Now, results are needed from Russia. We do not trust them. And frankly—the world doesn't trust Russia. And they must prove that they are truly ready to end the war—ready to stop lying to the world, to @realDonaldTrump, and to America.

## Talks “discussion about nothing” in Saudi Arabia fail to achieve meaningful ceasefire

A recent article about the talks

Article:
"In the end, due to the Russians striking the flanks, advancing through the gas pipes and demolishing the bridges around Sudzha, the [Ukrainian] defence forces did come dangerously close to being trapped. This became evident between 6 and 9 March...

'The retreat was totally forced,' added Dmytro, the artillery platoon commander. 'We knew time was running out and we only had days or hours left, yet we spent a week in complete chaos waiting for them to give at least some kind of permission to withdraw. Staying there and continuing to fight was beyond unbearable. In the end, we made the decision to leave on our own…

There was no encirclement, as our command says. But there was no planned withdrawal that would have enabled us to save our equipment either. Many units simply left on foot and marched 15-20 km.'"

Ukrainian Forces Continue to Prosecute a cross border operation in the Belgorod Region. One of those killed in these recent operations across the border in Russia is a Russian Reporter or Propagandist named Anna Prokofyeva who was reportedly killed by a land mine in the Belgorod region a day after arriving in the area. She is the third Russian 'journalist' to be killed in the Ukraine Special Military Operation in the past week or so.

Details of America's new mineral deal sent to the Ukrainian Parliament for approval which is apparently a significant expansion upon the previous agreements.

Reportedly all mineral, oil and gas resources will be overseen by a joint supervisory board of three Americans and two Ukrainians to split the income from those resources between the two countries. Funds generated under this proposal will be routed abroad to a US based corporation in Delaware so the United States can receive 4% royalties, priority rights on infrastructure projects, veto party over third party sales and Ukraine responsible for any compensation claims or delays and other disputes.

To my mind it sounds like the Kursk Offensive started out as a propaganda coup and diversion to draw some Russian forces away from elsewhere, but it outstayed its welcome and suffered badly from mission creep. It’s good that they withdrew before it got too bad, but the Ukrainians should not have hung around as long as they did.

It did manage to take a lot of pressure off the main fronts for those months, but OTOH the known equipment losses are pretty severe on the Ukrainian side compared to Russian losses.
