Actual numbers as of 3/3/20 per WHO
In China there are 80,304 confirmed cases (130 new)
In China there are 2,946 confirmed deaths (31 new)
Outside China there are 10,566 confirmed cases (1,792 new)
Outside China there are 166 confirmed deaths (38 new)
Mortality rates are trending downward slightly as more cases are confirmed, especially outside of China.

Average age of fatalities outside of China, incidentally, is 80.

And this is the clincher to all this doomsaying. Not only would China have to be cooking the books (which admittedly is highly likely), but all the other countries where this disease is present.

Some good news: the corona alert near my city, in Idar Oberstein, was a false alarm. There was a scare, but the initial suspect and 70 others were tested and determined to be not infected.

Of course, there's the possibility of then being asymptomatic carriers or whatever the term is, but I doubt it. Odds are too long.

He doesn't care and he has enough money to slide it past authorities.

Again, if it was as bad as some are making it out to be, every US base in Korea would be on heavy lockdown.
And we are watching the virus

You are assuming the people in charge are competent. Don't make that mistake. Keeping up appearances and stopping a run on the banks and stock market dip is much more important to them than the safety of mere serfs.

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.

EU government workers affected this time.

Outside of China? Not necessarily; we're still at the early stages where the virus hasn't had enough time to spread. Those who are "doomsaying" are not saying it is bad; they're trying to warn you that it is going to get bad at some point in the near future. I mean, you may as well use polls from the 2016 election, to try and justify why Trump shouldn't have won; the data simply isn't reliable enough.

There is another dangerous reaction one can have to a potential looming threat, in addition to panicking; and that's pretending there is no danger, as if that alone is enough to make it vanish in a puff of logic. I don't any of us knows what's going to happen for certain; and I think that, more than anything else, is what terrifies everyone.

I view 1% death rate as the low number and 15% as the worst case senerio, and even in that we all have a 85% chance of survival and I have bet on worse odds.

My mom's immune system is shot, so if she gets it her chances are not nearly as good as that. I'm not worried about myself; I'm worried about her.

It's the way I view it. It may be an absolute human tragedy but it won't be the end of the world.

It may very well be the end of Open Borders, mind you.
