Election 2020 Election 2020: It's (almost) over! (maybe...possibly...ahh who are we kidding, it's 2020!)

Yes, but they need 50 votes to do that. This actually swings power towards the moderate/centrist part of the Democrats, because those are the votes they have to compromise to keep in the count.
I still do not trust the dems, but that does at least allow them to if they have any that do not agree with doing something they can keep away from it

So, what do we think happens to the GOP as a result? I'm reckoning that schism between the MAGA hats and the Neocons is just going to get bigger and bigger, both sides blaming the other for the loss (although we all know who's actually to blame. Bloody cowardly, useless, RINOs). I do think the American Nationalists actually have the support and energy to eventually wrest control of the GOP, but there is also a chance they just abandon ship (especially if the Neocons maintain control) and found their own party (it probably wouldn't be led by Trump. He's a bit old for that now, but he'd likely be a kingmaker).

If that happens, hopefully it goes better than Bull Moose Party.

You shouldn't worry; there's no reason to think any such thing happened before so there's no precedent to worry about it happening now. And even when they do lose fairly, I'm sure we can count on trump trying to pressure officials to find votes for his preferred candidates a few months from now. On the down side, he'll likely have even less success once he's vacated his current prestigious address.

Pretty sure that's illegal on several levels...
Hey @Vaermina I'm pretty sure you're wrong! If you'd like to cite any actual legislation you think it violates, we could always go through it together to see exactly why you're wrong?

Also, you never answered my previous post. I'd assumed you simply didn't have the time, but if you're posting I guess it's not that? Maybe you thought the truth of what I'd said was so obvious you didn't feel the need to concede? It's always best to be as clear as possible in this kind of discussion though, so if you're able to admit that you were wrong I think that would be great.

Well looks like Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema have become the 2 most powerful people in the Senate.

I think those two are the real losers of last night's election, they can't be happy about the insane amounts of pressure from all sides that they're going to be under for the next two years (at least).

I just got here.

In regards to the election results in Georgia all I can say is. I told you so, this was going to happen and you Americans are heading for a literal holocaust caused by neglect and abandonment. I fully expect the Democratic oligarchy and their corporate allies to cause the alienation, homelessness and eventual deaths of some three and a half million Americans over the next three years, with another twenty million following over the next fifteen. It's so sad, America had all the tools to legally and peacefully correct this but Republicucks and your average American are just too demoralized and or programmed to be a graceful loser. China will begin to take to the stars while your children get put on HRT. They'll begin mining ore and innovating cloning tech to minimize the food crisis while the last living Americans who voted for Trump pass away in a homeless camp outside a major city. Your Republic is no more, those of you who are part of the acceptable margin will live in your pods, eat bugs, own nothing and mindlessly consume ever worsening fiction while the world you knew ends.

I don't enjoy saying these things, I'm deeply disturbed. When America falls the world will be blanketed in darkness and my country will be gobbled up by China next. All that I fought for and everything I lost was for nothing because you fucking people couldn't grab your dicks and take your country back. I'm genuinely horrified, I know what's coming, a new world order of evil and displacement the likes of which none of you can imagine. I can only hope my grandchildren are smart enough to keep themselves one step ahead of the fall long enough that their great-great grandchildren might become the new kings of the coming wasteland or something. It's over, the sun is setting and on Janaury 21st Night will come for the Homosapien. Why did it have to go like this, why was there no chance to turn back? The twenty First century will be the last human century. I was so optimistic yesterday as well damn.
Wow, what a fucking drama queen.

Mariannette Miller Meeks, the Republican Candidate for the Iowa City/Davenport district of Iowa in the state government won the election by 6 votes. Her democratic challenger, Rita Hart, is appealing to the Iowa Government for a recount and recertification, as well as engaging in Judicial challenges.

It is uncertain if the challenges will prevent Miller Meeks from being seated on the 30th of January as would be normal.
I mean when its this close, honest mistakes make the true winner almost impossible to know. So a recount is very reasonable.

Well Manchin doesn’t have to give a fuck about pressure from the left. West Virginia is a solidly conservative state that voted for Trump for over a 40% margin. A primary from the left is not going to unseat him. Manchin must know that if he folds to the Bernie Sanders wing of his party he will lose his seat.

The thing is that there already was a recount that affirmed Miller-Meeks as the winner

They're now counting the electoral votes

Arizona is objecting to the counting of their votes.

Counting has paused, each house is now deliberating on it

We won't hear anything interesting for several hours at least.

As far as I know they just did the first objection and will debate it separately.

There are 5 more likely objections to happen after this.

Each time they will separate the Senate and house to debate.

This is going to go on all night. Each debate is supposed to be about 2 hours. We are looking at 12 hours from this point, before this is done.

Good going all you, "I hope the GOP loses in Georiga, we should openly tell people not to vote for the GOP senates candidate because they were insufficiently fawning over Trump post-election." I guess you can hope Manchin blocks any too crazy Democrat proposals. Maybe if the money uselessly given to Trump post-election had been given to the Georgia senate races instead, things would have turned out differently.

And now people are openly trying to storm the capital. Oh, joy. No, Trump didn't have the election stolen from him, he lost because a) he was president during a pandemic and rightly or wrongly many people felt he handled it badly, b) much of his staff was made up of people who didn't agree with his agenda, meaning they didn't push it and Trump himself didn't have the personal interest to push it, and c) Trump's kind of a bad politician and couldn't manage to curb his outbursts enough to keep enough moderate/suburban Republicans onside.
