Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

I mean it’s sometimes a thing the Soviets did it against the Nazis, and Nazis against Soviets at the end.
You do realize that you described two of the most evil regimes of all time, right?

Also, I am pretty sure the soviets gave their conscripts at least some training, or are you using "Enemy at the Gates" as your source material?

So the photo's of Zelenski in kit are from last April, and the photo of him having tea with troops was from before the invasion.

It seems he may not even be in Kiev, but in Lviv, which seems to counter what some Ukrainian accounts suggest.

Lots of bad info flying from both sides.

He has literally been in kyiv multiple times and has been spotted by people.
I don't care about the kit stuff.

I have no idea, but usually he's far more reasonable; just goes to show what too much emotional investment can do to a person's ability to rationally judge a situation.
So basically he gets triggered about things he doesn't understand and people he doesn't know, and that are very far from the scope of his knowledge and geographic area.

He's been acting like a dick to me too though, rejecting everything I've had to say about the subject out of hand, and I'm fairly certain I haven't done any of those things either.
What, me?
When and where?

Also, I am wondering if it has occurred to anyone in the thread that myself and Butch R. Mann are actually from eastern Europe, and we might be better acquainted with the overall cultural situation than some rando couch potato watching CNN or Fox news?

You know there was this whole economic theory about specific, local knowledge being superior to top down disseminated gibberish?

Also, where and how have I been a racist?

I hate on Westerners and the Pope, not a specific race of people.
And Ukrainians, Poles, Macedonians and Serbs are all Slavs, aka my own fucking people, so what, I am racist against myself?

Gimme a break, Husky Karen is really going off the deep end here.

In other words, your personal bias against Putin and Russia makes it impossible to convince you of anything that paints them in a positive light, or justifies their actions.
You have personal bias and are simply projecting that onto me. Again, if Putin hadn't felt the need to start shit, I would at worst, feel apathy toward Russia. But the fact they are invading another country with the intent to conquer it, basically as part of a tantrum for not letting themselves be a puppet (as near as I can tell) is what give me this so-called "bias." Where the hell does this even come from with you? You're responding to me stating that I am disinclined to believe accusations of being a Nazi, yet for you this somehow translates into an anti-Russia bias? Dafaq is wrong with you? wtf.gif

Their involvement is a net negative to information quality.

Well I guess now is as good a time as any. Telegram is awesome for this conflict... but I use Twitter for shitposting here.

These are five Twitter accounts I draw shitpost content from for this conflict. There's lots of others for the hot takes but these are the betterer ones I feel. I might not post from them often because I try to backtrack the tweets or find if there's a corollary on Telegram to "credit" or a mainstream source so it looks like 'credible' but here are the accounts I've been following.

I'll just post their latest Tweet as a reference

RALee85: I followed him starting around the Armenian-Azeri War and he really tries to be NPOV in presenting things and trying to verify things before posting them in his Twitter feed. He is an American but he has a deep knowledge of Russian stuff and will actually say when he's not sure of things, or offer options of what it could be... and more importantly will post that he's removing tweets or questioning tweets he made if it turns out to be BS and say so. He also offers snap, easily digestible analysis every so often. Favorite. I'd say he's fairly nonbiased in presentation and when he presents his opinion YOU KNOW IT!

Oryx: I think they're Turkish but they have affiliates or whatever everywhere. They are sympathetic to the Ukraine but they are the ones who chronicled the visual evidence for losses in the Armenian-Azeri Conflict and are yugggggge TB2 Dronestans. So that's their bias and since Ukraine has them... well there you go. They retweet their own takes from a lot of pro-Ukrainian accounts but they also have a nice website inventorying all the destroyed equipment claims. So I think they have a stronger Ukraine bias but... it's known but could affect "ReTweet" selection.

Elint News: Lots of War Porn I think which is fine. Again its a nice source for videos and snap analysis/opinions. They're biased to Ukraine but again I think its mild and mostly affects source selection.

GlobalMilitaryInfo: Basically an open source newsfeed for War Nerdiage. They try to be the Reuters of military stuff and it kinda works. I like them because they try and use qualifying language and keep things simple. Maybe a bias to Ukraine? Not terribly evident though. I'd say generally non-biased except naturally they'll regurgitate/report Western opinions/analysis dryly more than others.

Ryan Chan: Probably shouldn't even be on this list lol. He's not nearly as in depth on Russian knowledge. I typically follow him for his expertise on Asia-Pacific Affairs and he hasn't hidden sympathy for Ukraine. For better or worse he hasn't spoken nearly as much as others when it comes to Ukraine but I'm dropping him here because for the topics he is familiar with, he's a good source of information. Shouldn't even be on this list but... I'm recommending him anyways. I like his source selection as well. He's not nearly as prolific as the others.

But ultimately, especially with a War ongoing, still gotta take even the above with a grain of salt.

Chechens getting ass kicked.

Apparently it was at the famous Hostomel/Antonov Airport and Ukrainian Spetsnaz were involved in this fight as well, just like they were earlier when engaging the VDV on the first day of fighting IIRC. Though it might be a different Ukrainian Spetsnaz unit. I don't know if it was referenced that the Alpha Group was involved in the earlier fighting.

Zelenski/Ukraine are playing the propaganda war as well, and seem to be pumping out as much BS as the Russians.

I'm just praying the Ukrainians are able to cause enough grief for Russia that Putin has to deescalate and pull back while going for terms.

However, if Putin actually is looking to kill Zelenski and as much of the Ukrainian gov as possible, then this is going to keep getting uglier.

Ukrainian sources so far. ;)

Which brings up something else that's sad. Twitter has been throttling feeds and suppressing/suspending Open Sources Twitter accounts (the suspensions likely due to Bot mass reporting) and even independent journalists like those I mentioned in a previous post and are instead pushing generic shitty hot takes from various journalists, partisans, commentators and other idiots I happen to be following with four and five and eight hour old tweets. :p (I like Daily Wire and the Intellectual Dark Web and New Right Media as much as the next person but their takes are so shite and trite as to be predictable in this regard and I don't want predictable hot takes, I want open sourced war porn and news updates!)

Also the Kyiv Independent, random Ukrainian blue checkmark journalists and Russia State media sources as well in the Twitter... glorious. Pushing shit to the top while suppression the actual news.

Said sources were told by the prisoners

Sending untrained people to be slaughtered is not evil, especially when they have no chance in hell to do anything?

If that is not evil, then what is?
The conscription is of course evil (though the russians are doing it too), as all slavery is evil. But supplying people with guns and pointing them at an aggressor is not evil. It's the basic right of self defense.

As for the 2014 coup, a popular coup (i.e. not just the military, but one with significant civilian desire) is almost always justified IMO, as the government serves only at the peoples wish.

So giving people guns without training them to use them or verifying they are not rapists, murderers and insane, then propagandizing them to shoot at well-trained professional soldiers with tanks and IFVs is not worse?

Even if Nuland is choosing the cabinet?

Also, there is a difference between democracy and mob rule, a coup is mob rule, besides, nothing guarantees the mob is 51% of the whole population.
Then again, democracy in its purest form is two wolves and a sheep deciding what is for lunch.[/QUOTE]

Here's some more of the weapons being pledged to Ukraine.

Thanks to Germany no longer blocking lethal aid to the Ukraine, Estonia can ship its nine howitzers (originally East German Soviet-era D30 Howitzers IIRC) that it wanted to send to Ukraine BEFORE this conflict started and the Netherlands is sending 50 Panzerfaust-3 Launchers with four hundred rockets.

From Belgium

From Slovakia

Everyones favorite, the government of Canada, pledging another 78 million in loans on top of the previous 120 million and just under 8 million worth of lethal aid and ammunition.

Portugal

CNN Portugal said:
"The Ministry of National Defense informs that, at the request of the Ukrainian authorities, Portugal will make available military equipment such as vests, helmets, night vision goggles, grenades and ammunition of different calibers, complete portable radios, analogue repeaters and automatic G3 rifles".

Other countries are still sending humanitarian aid, such as Italy or more specifically Spain with twenty tons of it.

One Twitter take on the totals of lethal military aid at the moment being sent are as follows but unverifiable atm.

For example recently Latvia sent Ukraine several hundred tons of fuel and a number of Stinger MANPADs.
