Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022

Pyrrhic Victory. Being cut out of international banking and your country being made a world pariah is no victory and will have lasting consequences down the road.
Such responses were predictable, the west does the same thing every time. Securing the Russian border against NATO encroachment, and ending the attacks on their co-ethnics in Donetsk and Lugansk, appear to have been good enough reasons for them.

With the sheer amount of warmongering and killing NATO has done over the last half-century, nobody in their right mind would want us as neighbors.

Giving civilians weapons and Molotovs without any training or organization results in idiots Molotoving themselves over a Russian Vehicle that has already been captured and is under tow by a Ukrainian Tractor.

So this can't end well.

Not smart, mainly because you could be shot dead for nebulous reasons but...

There is a Z on the side of the blue towing vehicle door apparently. 🤷‍♀️

If they take out a Russian vehicle, that's one less Russian vehicle.
If they take out a Russian vehicle and get shot for their trouble, that's one less Russian vehicle and good footage of Russian soldiers murdering civilians.
If they don't take out a Russian vehicle and get shot for their trouble, it's good footage of Russian soldiers murdering civilians.
If they don't take out a Russian vehicle and don't get shot for their trouble - who cares?
If they take out a Ukrainian vehicle... well, at this point it doesn't really matter.

Ukrainian government doesn't have much choice in the matter. They have to hand out weapons and hope for the best.

The Saudis aren't threatening to invade anybody.

Tens of thousands of Yemenies, killed by Saudi bombs and Saudi blockade (with considerable help from USA) would disagree, but they can't because they are dead. Saudi Arabia has several times higher kill count than Russia, but the world is OK with it because they own shares in MSM.

What could possibly go wrong???

It will probably be something similar to Tornado battalion

That saves Putin some trouble, now he won't have to free them himself, and they will probably find their way to western Europe on their own.
And I am sure a number of them will kill their officers and just desert, then claim they are war refugees or just start a life of armed banditry behind friendly lines.

In related news, finally, some Iskander usage:

Looks like the Russians have been using their less capable units and older tech to identify, draw out and occasionally encircle the tougher parts of Ukraine's defenses, and now it looks like they might be going in for the kill with heavy, long-range weapons and massed formations of fresh troops.

We'll see if that goes anywhere.

Seems some foolish warhawks want to declare a 'no fly zone' over Ukraine, and force the US to down Russian planes directly. Even the braindead corpse they insist won the 2020 election and his handlers, along with the not-warhawkish bits of the Right, are saying that is a dumb idea and not likely to happen. Even the UK Defense Minister came out to slap down 'no fly zone' speculation.

Which has always been their doctrine. Modified as needed for the political realities and ROEs. If Ukraine had wisely folded, well and good. Otherwise the second echelons and third echelons finish the job by exploiting the openings.

Kyiv was a double feint. It was a real attack that had to be countered, but not the main focus which is the operational encirclement of the Ukrainian Forces east of the Dnieper River or their operational retreat west of said river which is just as good for his plans and results in the Ukrainian Army forced to use just a few vulnerable roads and bridges to retreat across.

Kringezinger is a pilot, IIRC, I propose they send him to enforce it.
Perhaps he can link up with the ghost of Kiev, I am sure that they will be able to deal with Putler's two-bit airforce and that they will find out that in actuality the Pak-FAs are nothing more than old YAK-131s with some plywood and tin-doil stuck on them to make them resemble F-35s. :sneaky: :ROFLMAO:

TBH what they are doing atm reminds me a bit of the time-honored Mongolian tactic when dealing with an enemy.

Drive an enemy into a central location, cut him off, use lots of raids to pacify the surrounding hinterland, then drive in for the kill while using lots of faints.

So looks like BP pulled out of Russia oil/gas yesterday, and Shell did today.

Old news is old.
Also, so what, I doubt that any Russian company will want to float stock on a Western exchange or merge and cooperate with a western company at this rate.

Gazprom/Rosneft/Lukoil is still there, still holds all its assets, it still has its revenues and those are denominated in dollars, and the oil is close to 100$ a barrel.
They probably have cash on hand or can tap some Chinese lending/financing and buy back their stock at a massive discount.
The devalued ruble also helps them by lowering their costs.

We'll see how long that lasts. Right now the world has to react harshly because they don't want to go to war but need to be perceived of dishing out consequences; they also want to make sure Russian understands this cannot be repeated either. However given the realities of the energy market and fragility of the global economy it is not sustainable to permanently sanction Russia; it is sustainable to make them feel pain for what they did and send a message about what could happen when things stabilize more if Russia decides to get froggy again.

Meh better reason to release prisoners then Covid.
Maybe, but not smarter. What's to stop them from simply defecting to the Russians and then getting put in positions of power when the inevitable defeat of Ukraine happens? That's what the Allies did in Italy with all sorts of 'fun' results.

Ehh not quite if you follow and read the article the divesting was as follows they aren't selling the shares, officially out of concerns sanctioned individuals would buy them. How letting the company keep the dividend hurts them is beyond me. At least that was what bp did sorry skimming due to being busy. And I know more of what bp did since I have investments.
1. They had the directors they appointed resign
2. They declined the dividend.

Hence forward, we'll be adopting the policy inspired by this post below.

*sigh* Is this necessary? just exchange info and believe what you want to believe, no need to get worked up, we’ll never know the truth for sure until it’s all over anyways.

If you feel that disinformation has been posted, feel free to post counter-evidence or analysis to discount the supposed information instead of attacking the poster as a liar, fanboy, Nazi apologist, racist, or otherwise being insulting, condescending or flame baity for posting stuff from a fluid conflict. Or better yet, just post your evidence without even having to reference the prior poster in any way except maybe quoting them.

If your incapable of doing that, you don't have to post in this thread and if you still can't do that, we can have you banned from this thread instead. You can stick to Telegram and Twitter. Most people here just want to read and exchange information, not read about peoples personal issues with each other inflamed over their ideological differences in this one conflict and other petty internet forum drama and using an actual war as a vehicle to "Ree" about such petty crap.

And keep in mind memes and stuff should go in the other thread here:

With that said, new threads were made concerning the following:

Discussing alternatives to Russian Energy:

And discussing the Restoration of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in Alternate History!

Also some posts were moved to this thread:

Anyways Nerds, since everyone is posting Tweets and this is a forum founded by Science Fiction/Fantasy and Gaming nerds, I will leave you with this comparatively petty Nerdshit:
